I need to replace a failed hard drive in my fathers HP notebook. It originally came with Win2000 which he later-on purchased and installed a retail copy of Win XP upgrade. After replacing the failed drive with a new one will I have to first install Win2000 and then apply the WinXP upgrade or can I just do a straight WinXP install from the upgrade CD? If not can I use my WinXP CD which is a full OEM WinXP SP2 CD but just use the activation code that came with the upgrade CD?

Thanks,

Normally, you can do a full install from an upgrade CD, as long as you have the original version you are upgrading from.
