Not my original idea, but its an adaption. I can't remember the link, but I once saw a peltier cooled drink holder. I have a chrome orb just sittin here and I was thinkin "If I could rig that up, I could cool my coke pretty well."

This whole thing has gotten out of hand now. I have plans that go something like this: I've removed the clip from the orb, giving me a nice, smooth surface to work with. I will stick a copper plate to the orb, then a peltier, hot side down, on this copper plate. then one more copper plate on the cold side. I mount this whole thing in a pvc pipe about 6 inches long and cut slots in the sides of the pipe to allow for air movement. I then put metal or plastic sides on the top to retain the can. Not too clear? I'll try to throw something togeather in mspaint in a miniute.

Now the questions:

I want to run the TEC from 12v instead of 15v. How much wattage should i plan to lose if I were to use a 50 watt pelt?

Any suggestions?

Brian

This is a cool idea. I have no idea how much wattage you'd loose, but as an added bonus, you could reverse the current and heat your cup (for coffee say). Cool idea.

That would be...a total waste of money. Seriously, peltiers projects add up once you start buying parts. I got myself a 72W pelt and two ultracheap HSFs as well as AS Epoxy for my Water Chiller project, and that was almost a complete failure. Parts cost me like $60. Not to mention how much power those things suck, you're not doing your computer a favor...
