Athlon MP 1800 is it unlocked?

I know this chip is a cpu just for servers but can also be used in the desktop motherboards. I heard that these chips are built with better quality to overclock is this true? Also does it come already unlocked?

I do not belive these chips are factory unlocked.

MP is for Multi Proc. The MP1800 that are showing up are unlocked from the factory. The XPs should O/C better 'cause they run lower voltages & are a bit cooler.

If i am only running a single MP CPU how is it that it runs hotter?

Actually the XP has the same Palomino core as the Mobile Athlon 4 and Athlon MP processors. But the Athlon XP has a new organic-based packaging. All previous AMD CPUs including the MP had used the older ceramic-based packaging technology. AMD moved to this organic package because it allows better scaling of CPU clock speed as well as the FSB. It also allows AMD to mount capacitors on the underside of the package closer to the core of the CPU which improves power delivery to the core and noise filtering. These capacitors will be needed for the lower core voltage when the die of the Athlon XP is shrunk down to a 0.13-micron size next year.

It's technically referred to as Organic Pin Grid Array (OPGA) packaging. OPGA consists of a fiberglass substrate much like that used in the Pentium 4. It's slightly less expensive to produce than ceramic packaging, has better signal integrity, and lower power dissipation. The lower power dissipation is what makes higher clock frequencies possible.
