View Full Version : Mini River in your house/room?
After attempting to build a Bastille and a moat for the Bastille, I got the idea to build a river inside my house. I probably won't do it until I move, which probably won't happen until after college. I just thought it would be cool to have your own river flowing through your house, but I'm not even sure how someone would go about doing it. This thread is really to feed my curiosity more than anything, and who knows, maybe someone will take my idea and put it to good use. So if anyone has any idea how to do something like this, please post. :santa:
Get a water garden pump from lowe's. 30000 gph or more would prolly do ya. Dig a trench under your house, cut the floor out over it, and use a rigid plastic or good waterproofed wood to build a trench in the floor. Continue like it was a water garden with rocks and plants and such. Build short bridges over it to get to the rest of the house. Crap, now youve got me thinking about it. The hardest part would be keeping the rest of the house from warping because of the humidity present. Guess you could run a dehumidifier and empty the water back into the system.

A river? 0.o How big of a place are you getting? Im kidding, but a Bastille looking like computer? And well a way you can do it possibly, is clear tubing and such back lit to give an illusion of a pond and such. To get it going around your room, that would be alot of water to use, a pond pump and you could use a lil aquarium pump for a small pond with a cover on it.

Oh, the Bastille was just a school project gone wrong. But I whenever I get a house, quite a ways off, I am definitely going to build a river in it! And to be honest, I was thinking of a river that you needed a bridge to cross over, but that would be awesome. And make a draw bridge at the front door so that when people want in your house, you need to let them in first. That would be so awesome. :p

i can just seen it, 60 year old quaxor firing his cannons at the neigbors, then jumping in his pirate ship and going looty while overclocking his p30 to 100teraflops

What happens when your grandma comes to visit and you can't wheel her over the bridge?

Don't forget the Koi. You'll definitely need to get some ancient Koi swimming around in your river.

Heh, forget the koi, get an alligator, then you can have endless moments of splashy red hilarity just after your friends poke it in the eye to see if it's real.
Or if your own pad will serve as a base for operations leading to world domination, don't overlook the evil simplicity of sharks with fricking laser beams on their heads.

I hope Grandma can swim. And about having fish, would they be okay in there?

Heheh just remember if you wanna do all this, make sure you go through the zoning laws and stuff. Hell then people can touch you. Oh and best place to do this would be out Mid-West, lots of land for you to destroy ^^

Is the moat really necessary?
Well, it keeps the Black Knight at Bay.

A river through your room filled with beer? Just bend down and take a gulp! :santa: Or if you filled it with water it would be a natural humidifier for the dry winter months..

Actually, we have a watefall in the garden- so how about water running down the stairs? Like a waterfall all the way down... wow awesome!

Well, seeing as how I'm 17, I've got a lot of time to think about all this. :p
But I did think about the zoning crap, since it would be different for every place you go. Also, what about dieing the water so you have a purple river or something?

Yeah you could use a dye or you can add in a chemical agent into it to make it turn colors. I know that scientists use some kind of a chemical thats non-toxic, into waters that make it turn pink or something to follow its current.
But yeah at 17, got alot of time ^^. I know I would of love to set up a waterfall system in my backyard to water all the plants. We have this kind of a hill where I would of loved to design and do myself. Of course parents wont let me but having the water fall irrigate all the plants on the hill would be so awesome!
We should all put our money together, buy some land, and make a Great OC Forums River. :D

LMAO. Especially about the sharks with fricking laser beams on their heads.

River? Hmmm
After having had too many Aquariums at one time, I think the smell from the water and what grows in it would be really bad. cool idea though..

Whatever you plan on making, I would suggest that it be removable... that is unless you plan on living in that one house for the rest of your life, or having a very very hard time selling a house with an indoor moat in it.
Just trying to add a splash of reality... Anyway, it sounds like a good start to a dream of yours. Don't stop dreaming up cool ideas like this, it's something you'll laugh about as you look back on your life down the road.

I actually thought about the whole being able to sell a house with a river, so I probably won't try this until I'm financially sound and possibly settled down with someone.
I used to study architecture stuff. If you look up Frank Lloyd Wright, he worked out the whole thing. It is an awesome idea. Instead of an actual river you might want to go with a closed loop system w/ garden pump. Fish would make your water kinda nasty, but hey if you are into that sorta thing.
I wish I can do this!Have my own japanese style garden like thing and a river on the back.
I just got an awesome. Get an iRiver hooked up to a sound system that plays nature music around your river! :p

That would be hilarous. I dunno about going under the house but around it would be kinda cool. I'm suprised Bam Margara hasnt thought of that. Find a way to give him that idea, I bet he would do it, lol.

Probably. Except he might throw in some expensive cars instead of fish.

Seriously you could get a river/ rock garden book that covers outdoor ones. Be careful a outdoor river doesn't need to be watertight. You could get one of those black plastic things from a garden center and use one of those. You could also get one of those plugin water things water fountains.
