Because it is equivalent in speed to a PIV at the higher clock rate.

thanks Amd has decided that for their newest processor in order to make them acceptable to the "ignorant" they would name them for their potential work rather than their physical speed. I hate to see this because it is a throwback to the past. Amd has always had the speed over Intel but performance was lacking until the Athlons/Durons came along. Suddenly they had both speed and performance. American business and Intels foggies refuse to accept the obvious. Dell will not use Amd and Gateway who changed their mind and decided to use them has now again turned coat. I believe it is a mistake. Wish they had hung in there. I do believe they will be back but they really need something with big numbers to get by the ignorant public. I am an Intel guy from way back who just received his first Athlon for folding purposes. Why? Because I can read benchmarks and know that for the work I need this puter to do the Athlon is the best part to use. Not cause it's cheaper but because it does the work faster. End of story.
