I had been him-hawing around for awhile on the idea of leaving my old team(one I co-founded) and making a total committment to Team 32. Once the "embarrass David" thread appeared, I knew it was time. Today I got on the top 20 producers list! Just a "flash-in-the-pan" you say? NOPE. I'm here to stay. ;)
http://www.geocities.com/hrsetrdr/PCC_pics/Top20onOCF.JPG
I know it'll be tough to hang onto the #20 producer spot for long, and many more times tougher to climb higher but I'm UP for the challange!

I'm expecting you to climb up the ladder too(or bring your team over to form a subteam and see your whole team up at the very top!!)!! ;)
I remember when 2kppd made you a big dog. Now that does not even get you in the top 20. Its amazing the way this team has grown.
I guess its time for some of us oldtimers to either BORG or get out of the way.
BORG ON fellow teamates!

Yes, the P5LD2 and ram is on it's way from Newegg, and the 830 D I bought from ebay is also enroute. :D However, my original intentions were to replace an MSI dually/AMD 2200MP's with the P5LD2 system. I'm a bit ambivalent right now as to what route I'll take.
You guys seriously think you are up to my challenge? :D
Nice to see it brought a good folder back though ;)

Hehe, awesome jobs everyone. I'm slowly bringing up my ppd. Hoping to be around 1200k very very soon. I also was given 3 computers today which will indirectly help me out. They were going to be thrown out. 1 of them will be parted out (old, p1 166Mhz), one is an uknown as of yet P2/P3, and the other one is an Athlon 1Ghz. That cpu is going into my Server (which is a Duron 750). Said duron is going back into this compaq that the Athlon came from. I'll stick another 128MB of memory for 256 and sell it locally. I'm also selling an older compaq k6-2 500mhz machine that I fixed, that'll net me a bit of cash to purchase some more memory for a few of my older machines. I had loaned my secondary gaming computer (my nephew uses it while here to play games with my dad, "grandpa". Mostly BF1942) to a customer to use until I received parts to build their new one with. I just installed the new one today and got my loaner back :). By the way, my customer was extremely pleased at how well your board worked, ihrsetrdr. I told them of it's origins, they were quite amazed :). Thanks again.
I apologize about the download time. I forgot I had my camera set at a higher resolution than normal. Should take around 12-13s to load each picture.

I'm really looking forward to see you wearing a really goofy avatar and stuff for a month, David. My Asrock board came in yesterday evening and it's taken me all last night and this morning to get her up and stable (fighting a dodgy stick of ram) but now she's up and folding and testing for stability with the lan cable unplugged (in case I do get an error, I don't actually lose the wu's, since I have it copied to another folder for backup). I presently have it running stock at 2200, but I will be bumping an overclock on it later.
Oh, and ihrsetrdr, glad to have you over here folding for Team 32.

It sure is pretty isn't it. Everyone really likes the gold. I need to find a nice case to mod to show it off eh? I almost got another nForce 2 board recently. Seller backed out at the last minute though because he was unable to find a box to ship it in. In hindsight I don't really need another, but I sure do love em :). I just finished working on a customer's laptop that will be delivered tommorrow. Now I'm going to spend a bit of time on the forums, and breaking down these new machines parts wise so I know what I'm working with. I also just broke 50k points today :). Will have to update the milestone thread :). Take care everyone.

ihrsetrdr ... looks like you are taking ownership of one of those top 20 spots!

My P5LD2, the 830D and the RAM have all arrived, just need time to build it out. :D
<<looks like you are taking ownership of one of those top 20 spots! >>
I'd like to think so, but the competition is steep! I'm just a farmer/builder...only have 1 borg but don't have access to it to change the config over to Team 32. The only people I know that have computers just flip 'em ON long enough to check their email and AOL buddy stuff!

I hope it OC's as smoothly as mine did. :)
Once that is online you will be cemented in the top 20 :) at least for a while i think
But you are right ... no resting on any laurels!
And it is getting awefully tough to get top 20 now ... seems to me it's at least 1,000 ppd higher than just a few months back!
But good competition for the team and the cause!
I am just a farmer/builder like you too.

pscout , How hot would these pentium D's get on stock air? I'm thinking of maybe having to water cool it. What pump are you using for your sig rig?
All I can really say to this is glad to have you on our team and thank's for bringing the PoWaH with ya:D
i never ran one on stock air ... all mine were oem with no intel hsf.
I assume you will be able to get it going ok on stock, but wouldn't be suprised if you can't dual fold, even with no oc on the stock hsf.
So far mine are all on air ... thermaltake sonic tower on 2 with dual fan on 1 in a warm room and single fan in my new cool room. Both these on are ld2, and not in cases hitting up to low 50's.
The one i have in a case has a big tyhpoon on it with a 115 cfm fan but i need to get it out of the case ... it hits low 60's regularly.
My sig rig water pump is a swiftech mp350 ... i modded it to flow more ... can find a link if interested. I built an old server case into a dual heater core rad box so it and the fans are though a wall into an adjacent room to reduce noise.
I have an mpc655 and switftech storm still waiting in their boxes for me to build a second water sys ... likely it will go on one of the 830's . need to get another dual heater core for it before i build ... already have the other parts.
If you are going to run in it a case in a room you use/can't cool, water may be necessary for any decent oc. Either that or u have ear plugs so you can put some high cfm fans on it and don;t mind a hot room :D
/edit you should probably have a blowhole on top if running in case ... mine doesn't but will be coming out of the case soon.

jonspd, Thanks so much! ;)
pscout- I shoulda listened, will have to get some serious cooling solution going for that 830D before I can even think about folding any clients on that!

It was just a guess ... i have nearly 0 experience with intel hsf's but from all my reading they aren't good for much of anything on prescotts. I think i have 3 or 4 of them but only ever installed 1 on my fisrt rig (sig rig) ... soon upgraded it ... several times ... till i finally went with water.
So my guess was that with the 830's thermals, that it would probably be hot just installing windoze at stock speed
What are your temps?
It might work for you if you reseat the heatsink and fan with a good thermal paste and can draw cool air from outside the case directly into the fan.
Good hearing protection will also most likely be required if you want to be anywhere near your computer for any length of time. :bang head
I gave up and went with water on my Intel 550, to get acceptable temps and noise level.

12-19-05, 04:21 PM
CPU temp @idle in BIOS reading 60.9 c right now. I'm using a coolermaster CI5-9JDSB-OL(much like a retail version hsf), Ceramique and added a 92mm fan to rear of case; side panel has a "scoop" that sits close to the fan on the heatsink. Adding the fan and side panel only dropped the original temp less than half a degree.
I'm leaning towards a Sonic tower partly for ease of install, and partly because of price- as compared to setting up another WC rig. Water cooling sure was the answer for my very hot AMD 2800MP's...still haven't ruled it out as an option.
If I did go for water cooling I'd get:
Swiftech MCW6000 (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16835108065)
Black Ice Xtreme radiator (http://www.cooltechnica.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=BIX-CustomBarbs-BLK&Category_Code=R-120mm)
and an
Eheim pump (http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84552444180 8202&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302030138&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023693&bmUID=1135030674057)

wow, 61c @ idle?? that sure is HOT and you'd be ready for throttling for sure when folding!!
I'm also looking/researching some air cooling solution for Intel (9xx series) CPU, I want it to be quiet and cool enough for them 9xx cpu. any suggestion you guys have?? I've been out of the loop on air cool for awhile, the last HSF I bought is the Zalman Cu7700.....

lets hope as the early reviews indicate that they are not space heaters like the 8xx's are!
Other than the reduced power and heat ... the 975 stuff doesn't sound like it will add any perf.
The thing that boggles my mind is how intel could ship a stock hsf that idles at 60!!

Actually, I was a bit relieved that it was just 60; I bought that CoolerMaster at PC Club(in person) and the store manager told me she had put one together that idled @ 70c !
EDIT: I ordered a Sonic Tower a little while ago; I hope that will pull the temps down alot .

Imagine that ... almost throttling at idle!!! Should be 50% off the price! :argue:
/edit ... on the ld2 i think you can only mount the sonic tower one way ... so fans blow up or down (in case). Depending on psu hopefully up blows directly into the psu exhuast intake. Ideally it would blow from front to back assuming you have a case fan exhaust adjacent. Since my ld2's are both caseless, it doesn't matter to me.
ihrsetrdr
12-19-05, 07:00 PM
If it were to blow "up" then my Enermax psu (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817194002) could pull a bunch of hot air out of the way!
Did you get the 830 folding yet?
How is the Sonic Tower handling temps?

Nope, not your fault! See other thread. ;)
Hey, how about some board pics? They should illustrate the problem better than me trying to describe it.

What do you think?
Looks the same as mine ... i mounted the brackets the other way (vertical to normal orientation of board in case) ... that is the only way it fits.
Mount a fan over the NB and you can slip a second one (25mm thick) in between the fins ... both blowing up towards the exhuast on your psu.
If you slip one betwen the fins, even if not a 120 mm, you can slide it as low as it goes so it will blow over the copper coils whick get hot to the touch, and the caps.
Should work?
I will grab a pic of mine.
here is the pic of mine ... it is caseless on my rack ... your fan will have to mount on the other side of the tower (mine is on the back so you can't see it in the pic) and blow towards your psu exhaust ... unless you have clearance in between tower and psu .. then you could put in a 3'rd fan!
ihrsetrdr
12-26-05, 09:12 PM
Aaaah, that orientation is a whole 'nuther ball-game! I don't have time tonight to try it but I don't go into work tomorrow until 2, so as soon as I kiss wifey and send her off to work in the morning, I can see what I'll be doin'! this project's got a new lease-on-life ! Thanks pscout! :D
