What steppings whould i be looking for on an opteron and do the different settings make that much of a difference to overclockability.

Are you looking for dual core or single core? That woul be a good place to start.

i dont think they do. i think a big part of it is pure speculation with too many variables.
all it takes is 1 guy to say that it does matter, and the sheep will follow.
its all about luck, stability and cooling more than anything else.

Looking at 144s, the best stepping is CABNE. But some later CABNEs were actually not that great. It's really luck of the draw.

i was going for a 146 or is 144 better for ocin
Go for the 146 over the 144 due to the higher multiplier. I've a CABYE 0540 and a CAB2E 0540 that both did 3 GHz. Avoid CABGE anything.
