Hey there. I just upgraded my Asus P2B-F mobo to a P3V4X, which can read my PIII 800E cpu's internal temp diode.

*MBM 5 reports it at 51 deg. C idle

*I also have the Asus P2T thermal probe stuck righ next to the core and it only reads 37 deg. C idle.

THIS IS WITH NO OVERCLOCKING and a Vantec heatsink(dual fan) attached.

Which one should I use for monitoring my CPU temp.? Is the internal diode really more accurate? Also, what should I set my temp warnings at in MBM?

Thanks in advance.

The answer is in the numbers. The internal diode is much more accurate. The lower temp from the Asus probe is because of the secondary heat path. Think about it like trying to measure the temperature of the inside of your refridgerator. Is a thermometer on the inside or the outside going to give your the more accurate internal temp? Even though this is on Socket A thermistors, there is much to be learned about secondary heat paths here. (http://mikewarrior.freeservers.com/)

The internal one ... Since I believe its actually touching the chip..

"Touching the chip?" It's inside the die, hence the accuracy.
