This is my mom's rig, AthlonXP 3200+, stock speed, XP Home SP2. I've had the update shield icon in the system tray for about 3 days now, and it's only at 50%.

I'm not sure what is being updated, nor can I kill the process. Whatever this update is, it's slowing everything down. Any ideas?

Spybot and AVG scans come up clean, for what it's worth

Go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download the update there. It will be much faster.

Shut the PS off.

then go to MS /update & get it.

If your on dial-up there's not much you can do if you don't have updates on Automatic ;)

google "process viewer" download, and install it, then kill the update.exe (I think it is called). I don't necessarily recommend this, but I never use MS update. it is more trouble then it is worth, imo. To each his own though, if you must take the other member's recommendation, and go directly to the site to get your fix ;)
