Can I remove that Black Pentium III thing? Im asking because im not sure if these chips came like this, and there are no screws on this thing :eh?:

That's a good one! I was running a PIII 450(looked like that) until I bought this rig.

Throw it in classifieds. The black thing will come off, and go right back on, mess around with it if you want.

Hey, an old socket 1. You should be able to remove the heatsink, probably by squeezing out the 4 pins at the plastic back.

I believe that is a coppermine 600E which should be good for 800+ Mhz with a good board and decent cooling.

The HS is probably riveted on. There is a guide how to remove it somewhere on the main page.

Oops, I should have said slot 1, not socket 1, lol.

I still have a waterblock mounting system for one those should you get that HS off. I made it from two aluminum plates with thru bolts and springs to sandwich the block against the core. Its yours if you have a use for it and a waterblock. :)

did you re-use the mobo it came out of as well? some boards had a slot and a socket.

the best thing you can do with that cpu is leave it where it was, use it as a file server or something. unless the mobo is already gone, then you can ebay it for $20-30.
