i am looking into this power supply to power my 2.4A@3.6, and ic7-max3 motherboard. My motherboard is 20 pin, this PSU is 24 pin. Will this be defeating the purpose of the dual 12V rails? in other words, should i just find another PSU that has around 30A on the 12V line instead of 2x18As on 2 12V lines?

or should i go with the true550W? that one has 30A on the 12V line.

my PCs 12V line currently drops to about 11.2V under load :(

If you're asking if a 24pin psu is okay to use on a 20 pin motherboard, then the answer is yes, it's fine to use, you just need to disconnect the last 4 pins.

actually i was wondering if it is better to have a higher amperage on the single 12V line or 2 12V lines if im using a 20pin connector

it's still better to have a single high +12v, connection type not withstanding.
