I feel like the biggest idiot on earth. I accidently filled the circled pit with conductive paint!!! (there isn't a pit there, but there is on my athlon xp 1800) Did I destroy it?!?!? What did that do? How can I get that paint out or there?!?!
HELP!!!

Use some acetone to get it out. Make sure you get ALL of it, though.

I've been trying that, it isn't working to well.
I wish I knew what having conductive paint down there did. Maybe it didn't ruin it. There is just a little bit in there. and it isn't touching anything but the bottom of the pit. It accidently got in there because it went underneith the tape. If I tried using the cpu it there the possiblity of it being destroyed, or it is more likely my multiplier will be locked at 11x? I think it is just a gird underneith the top layer so it might be just like shorting out the l1 bridges? err this sucks. I will try ever method of cleaning it, but I can barely see it.

Do you have any goof-off?
That stuff works well.

goof off won't destroy anything on the processor right?

I have been looking at the pits under a microscope and can't see anything conductive in them, so hopefully just the l1 bridges with the conductive stuff. Unfortunately I can't test my theory that just the l1 bridges have a conductive grid at the bottom of the pit, because they are all covered up. hmm, well the only thing left is to test the thing after I clean it as much as humanly possible.

I'll report back. I am thinking positive.... hoping... dang this better work...

Did you use it on the stuff the athlonp is made out of? On the can it says "Damages many plastics, worn vinyl floors, and some automotive paints"

Hmmmmmmm...
I used it on a ceramic amd tbird.
You must have an organic cpu.
I have not tried it on an organic cpu.
but...If you can use acetone, I think this
will be fine. try it on a small corner of the
CPU first. It should be fine though.

IF anyone tried this POST!

Well I know you guys probably don't know, but I only got 2 options.

1. try it booting it up with a little paint in the pit, that may or may not short whatever is down there and see what happens

2. try to clean it with goof off and hope it doesn't istantly destroy the cpu, and then try booting it up and see what happens.

*3. sell it as is before or after seeing if it works.

what should I do?

Well, if that stuff is on there and won't come off, you've already voided your warranty, so you may as well try it out.

I never had a warrenty, I am one of the lucky punks who got it at an www.xppcentral.com event . If I had a warrenty I would have never attempted this madness. I am thinking it will still work.

I'll report back here within an hour.

I tried it and everything seems to be 100% working fine. I have never overclocked anything before, so I will attempt to see if anything bad happened. Thanks for your replies guys, even if they couldn't help to much for some reason I felt more comfortable knowing people were giving me advice. Thanks!!! :) this is one of my favorite forums.

I have put loads of stuff on chips, and not had any problems. I think you'll be fine. Be sure and let us know how it turns out!
