Does anyone know how to do the 17volt mod? Its something like instead of using the -12v line use the -5 or something...

476% sure, I saw somewhere on hardocp, someone was running a delta with a 17volt mod, and it was going 11000 rpm

I personally would not try it. It's bad electronics to cross connect outputs from a switching supply, besides the -5 output is not rated for much current. Do as you wish, but I don't recommend it. The Delta fans do a fine job at 12V. Instead of pushing it and your luck, buy a faster one. Sidewinder.com has the whole range of high output Deltas.

Hmm... I thought the Delta's voltage range was 7v to 15v. I know I couldn't get it to run at 17v

Oh and to do it, take a 12v lead and ground it with a -5v lead from the motherboard connector

If I am correct,
How do you get 17v from the 12v+ line and 5v- line!
(-) Is just a ground/nutral.
You might as well connect the (-) terminal of the
fan to a metal part of the computer case! (grounded)

I'm not an elctronic technician or anything, but the way I see it, the ground is 'subtracted' from the lead.

So, 12v - (-5v)=12v + 5v= 17v

OMG YOU PEOPLE NEED TO READ A LITTLE MORE BEFORE U SAY SOMETHING.... 17volt mod works fine if U have a good power supply that can support the voltage and amp draw... ok now for the mod i have done myself... U take the +12v and the -5v and U get 17v i try to do it the other way -12v and +5v but i think that the power supply can't handle it .... also fans can run on 18 or even 19 v it U want them too just make sure you keep your fingers out of the blades cuz they are spinning alot faster... also running fans at a higher voltage will degrade the life spam of the fan... but what the heck they are not the much money and If U can't get a fan with more cfm then do the voltage mod and U have more cfm.. Blackbox AKA WOLFSID

Blackbox AKA WOLFSID Some fans have built in things to limit how much voltage you can put into it. As I said, I thought the Delta was included since mine wouldn't run at 17v. I never said anything about fans not being able to run at 17v, I just said that some fans have restrictions that keep them from running at 17v

Also be warned that you may burn your fan out when runnign at 17 volts....
So i wouldnt do that mod to a fan on your CPU... as a dead fan can mean dead CPU.

why not get the super delta 60? Would be safer. Although I bet you don't see much of a performance gain.

Running a brushless motor at more than it's rated voltage risks burning out it's drive circuitry, and if it's the CPU fan this probably means a toasted CPU as well. The +12v and -5v lines of a switching PSU can total 17vdc; that's how I run my peltier and it works great. On the drive connectors the yellow is +12v and the red is +5v....for the other voltages you need to go to the ATX power cable for the mobo. Use one of those crimp-on plastic splice devices from rat shack to pull -5v out of the line and send it where you want to go.

On another note, I've got an 8000rpm delta on my HS and it sounds like the flight line at JFK international already....can't imagine stuffing another 5 volts through that thing....the centrifugal force might rip the blades off :p

Joe has always maintained in his HSF reviews that you see diminishing results beyond about a 40 CFM fan, he showed this through using the "Extreme 90 CFM" with some heatsinks which was actually a hair dryer engine (blowing ambient temp air, of course). I know I'm a heretic since I have an Alpha on the way that uses the 80 MM 69 CFM delta but a 60 MM delta modded to spin at 11000 RPM is nothing but a safety hazard. I would highly recommend against using such a fan. There are simpler, more worthwhile things you can do to get your case cooled adequately.
