One partition for the OS and programs you want to install and then another for downloaded media, etc. should be fine and keep things in order.

Depending on how many programs, games, etc. you install the primary partition could probably suffice at 10-15GB. Remaining space for storage.

Is there a benefit to partitioning in this way? I always just use one, except for on my linux machine...

Not really. Too many partitions can actually slow a drive down.

The only benefit to me is that it's easier to keep track of your downloaded files and such and you have less a chance of losing them if your primary partition becomes corrupted. You can just format, reinstall and all your data will (at least should) still be on the second partition. I do this all the time with my fileserver...takes a long time to run 15GB over a network to back up.

I use to have a 15gig and I partition it into 2.. Split 50% each ..

So whenever your system corrupts you would format the C... And save your storage on D... ITs much easier like than.. C should jsut contain proggies and the OS itself.

Don't know what's recommended, but on my 30G, I'm split into 2. 5G for the OS side and the rest for whatever else I install. A 5G partition should be pretty quick for Ghost, too.
