View Full Version : Static sound from speakers
I have been getting an annoying static sound through my speakers off and on lately. This occurs even when I'm not playing any music. If I mute the sound through the Windows volume control, I hear no static so I'm thinking it must be something with my sound card. I have a Sound Blaster Live Value card. I don't see how it cold be a cooling issue. It's making noise right now and the side of my case is off. My system temp. is currently 29C. It's not exactly hot in my house...it's Pennsylvania in December! Could this be an issue with the sound card itself? I was thinking of replacing it but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. I believe I'm using the latest drivers also. Any suggestions? Thanks.

sonds like interference/EMF. try rearanging the wires, make sure that speaker/interconnects dont run paralell with any power wires. and if they must cross do it perpendicularly.or it could be a ground problem. make sure the card has good ground, the plate that attaches it to the case, make sure its got a good contact. other than that good luck. may need a DMM to track down if more complicated than that.
My speakers are pretty close to my monitor (but they always have been). I have recently added a cable modem and router which are just a couple inches away from my left speaker. Actually I only notice the static from the left speaker. Going to try putting more space between them and see what happens.
