Question says it all.

It looks like the log gets reset every time F@H starts but it looks like it tried to send results and failed.

Is there something in the work directory that would tell me if I have work to turn in?

I don't know another way, but there is a queueinfo command. This is how I do it and it's kind of involved but.........

I use the FAH@Console to do this. Shut down the client(not when you are almost done with a wu, just to keep the possiblity of losing four hours work to a minimum.)

Create a shortcut to the FAH2Console.exe. In the shortcut insert a " -queueinfo" switch, like the -local switch the space is important. Then run the console from the shortcut. The client will flash on and off very quickly. Then check your log and see what it says.
There is also a -send switch. You can " -send 1", " -send 2", etc. and I believe you can try to send them all by inserting " -send x=all" but don't quote me on that ;)
