Quote from Samsung1. Make sure that your CDROM drives are not working in the MS-DOS
compability mode (maybe there is a DOS CDROM driver installed
in your CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT).
If so, remove the dos driver or add REM in front of each dos file.
2. If the cause isn't 1 case above, the ASPI Drivers of Windows 95/98
might be overwritten or corrupted by the installation of other software
or various IDE/SCSI Device Drivers.
In this case you can look for a newer version of ASPI Driver.
The only company offering ASPI drivers for Win9X seems to be Adaptec
so have a look at their homepage for updates.
URL for Adaptec : http://www.adaptec.com
The name of the file : ASPI32.EXE
Otherwise here you have another option to make the ASPI manager work
with ATAPI devices again.
This option to to downgrade to the original Win9X ASPI manager
by copying the following files from the Win9X CAB files:
WNASPI32.DLL -> WIN\SYSTEM
WINASPI.DLl -> WIN\SYSTEM
APIX.VXD -> WIN\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS
ASPI2HLP.SYS -> WIN
**EDIT** Nero has its own ASPI that's probably why its the only burn program that works (right now). But Nero doesn't burn all .BIN files correct.
So you might wanna try another prog like CDRDAO (http://cdrdao.sourceforge.net/) (Freeware but a command line application)
download the Install file aspiinst.exe from adaptecs website. The aspi layer was designed and licenced out by adaptec so most adaptec products up to Easy CD Creator 4.x install a layer with them. Only one aspi layer is installed at a time: - if you install aspiinst.exe then Easy CD 4 for instance, the older version that comes with Easy CD creator overwrites the newer files(download aspichk.exe to confirm this). Although technically unsupported in Windows XP I must say that after much testing the aspi layer has proven reliable under this bloater of an OS(microsoft has abandoned ASPI and licenced its NEW built-in layer from Adaptec and I say this will become the new standard)
