Well it has bean an eventful couple of months at the start of November i had 5 rigs then two motherboards failed, one graphics card failed and just to upset me a power supply failed i now have 3 rigs which are crunching seti 24/7 and one rig part time, As Enkidu is doing i am now starting to get some bits together for a new rig and would like some suggestions at the moment i have a Pentium D840 extreme edition and a 74gig Raptor any opinions on motherboard, graphics, memory and cooling would be apreciated.

I love Corsair memory.....I have low latency 2-2-2 PC-3200 TWINX1024-3200XLPT running sweetly in my rig.

Also get some good cooling, those PIV are hot babes. :burn:

Too bad for all the failing hardware, but that pentium D extreme edition is gonna be one heck of a cruncher!

It would be nice to see how this 840ee is going to compare to Enkidu's dual lvXeons when overclocked. It will be faster but also more expensive.
As for mobo I would suggest p5wd2 Premium coz its the best lga775 board you can get. And you will need some DDR2 memory for that system. ( Heard that Mushkin has one of the best DDR2 memory but its best to ask that on the memory section of the forums ).
I think you will easily hit 1-1.2k RAC with that rig, AFAIK TC had 900RAC with his PentiumD @ 3.8Ghz before.

OK thanks guys I am thinking of going phase change for the cooling , any other sugestions much appreciated.

Tim is your man there. He was in the past interested in phase change.....There was this greek also that dropped here from time to time that also used phase change cooling......but haven't seen him for a while. Do a search and he'll pop in archives ;)

You mean HiPro5 :)

Yep, hipro5......I just couldn't remember his name. Drop any of them a PM on their experience and they might share their experiences with you.

Also, you should try the cooling forum. Lot's of good guy over there.....If you kindly ask for some opinions and do some searches over there you might gather lots of info.

That sucks, so you have all the other parts except mainboard?
Good to see new P4 crunching for the team.

I don't have all the bits yet still nead memory & graphics card also am undecided on cooling originaly planed for a promie but i think i may go with water cooling instead maybe change to a promie or vapochill later on.

woohoo, cant wait to see what this baby will do for SETI under phase :D 1200 RAC anyone?

I think 1200 RAC is an understatment. My 630 @ 3.9 can do 900 RAC while running only 16 hours per day. I bet this beast could pull off 1500-1700 RAC when running 24/7.
Can't wait to see that. :D

Just sell that Venice 3000 and buy yourself a SanDiego 3700+. It has 1MB L2. Could probably do 1000 RAC.

I hope to get over 2000 rac with optimised clients my 650 @ 4gig has a rac of 1772

I have all the bits installed in my new rig ran a quick test to see that all worked. I have just sent my prommie away for a regas and a desuperheater, the budget wont strech to a new evap, hopefully this will be back in a couple of weeks and i can start testing to find its best stable overclock and start crunching.

awesome :D let us know how it gets on.. will be an excellent addition to the team. Oh, some of you guys may know lol. Ive recently purchased off a friend, a watercooled 3.2ghz preshott.. he says it can do 3.6ghz no problem, so im hoping for around 3.6ghz.. anyway, its going to be a dedicated SETI client, what kind of RAC can i expect with it running on optimised clients @ 3.6ghz running 24/7?

my god.. P4s really do own up SETI dont they lol. I wonder how they will perform with the new SETI thats coming out? Or better yet, I wonder how things like Conroe are gonna perform like now, seeing as they lack the raw ghz that the older p4s had.. maybe they would be on par with AMDs now? (when it comes to SETI)

Sir Ulli speaks about SETI Enhanced here (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=447845) somewhere with a link to his current #'s (at least at that time). SETI is cpu cache intensive, so the more SETI gets, the faster stuff seems to run.
