well, i went out to petsmart today, looking for pumps. i was thinking i would get the mag-drive by danner, but i saw another option. i saw a "top-fin" submersible that was on sale.
at the store, the 250gph danner mag drive was like $49.99, a litle pricey. the top fin 500gph was only $39.99. so i figured i would give it a go. i bought both and tried them out at home...
the top fin is a bit quieter than the mag drive, and it not to mention more than twice as powerful (granted, we are comparing a 250gph to a 500gph, but still...) anyways, the top fin is almost half the size of the danner, thus MUCH MUCH easier to fit into a case or resevior. the overall build of each was pretty equal, maybe favoring the danner a bit.
i also noticed something else with the top fin, it carries a lifetime warranty! not 1 year, not 2 years, but lifetime. it's one of those "if you ever get dissatisfied with your pump, take it back for full refund, blah blah." so, i think ill go with it. it goes perfect with my resevoir (6x6x6 underground box). it doesnt say how much lift it has, but in the bathtub, just shooting unaided straight up, it got almost 3 feet. the danner 250gph only shot up like 1.25 feet. (also the pump nozzle is HUGE. its a full 1/2", whereas the danner has a slightly smaller nozzle, and thicker wall.
