I'm excited. Right now I'm running two 74gb raptors(one for os, other for media), and while 148gb always seemed like it would be more than enough, my music collection has increased a lot over time, and I've gotten interested in backing up some of my movies and stuff. Also, I was looking into installing a linux distro again. All this adds up to make my 148gigs of space seem a bit lacking.

So I ordered a diamondmax 10. While it's no longer the newest or fastest 7200rpm drive anymore(can't believe it's a year old already!), it's still kick ass especially with it's 16mb cache. I got it for 100 bucks(oem version) so I think it's a good deal considering my raptors cost me 200 a piece.

Since I'll have so much extra space, I was thinking of rerripping my favorite albums in a lossless format(perhaps even keep them as raw wavs) instead of 320kbps mp3s like I have now. I think I'll also archive some of my anime collections. Since my second raptor will be freed up, I'm going to use that for my page file as well as a dedicated linux drive. Can't wait to fill up my new drive when it arrives(hopefully on friday). I can already tell I'll be filling it up quickly, but I think it'll last until the end of next year when I build a new pc.

Sounds great, I was considering the same thing, Raptor for OS and big 16mb cache for everything else. Share experiences when you get it.

Wow, what a great buy! I would pick that same HDD if it cost 100!
Let us know how it performs.

It's definitely a nice drive. If it's only for storage, i recommend using WinAAM on it to set it to a quieter mode. It's stil plenty fast.

Lol. Be careful cause once I got started on the "I have the space for it" thing, I couldn't stop. I have hundreds and hundreds of gigs full of stuff. Now I have all my spots in my comp full and am relying on external drives. For music CD's and DVD's I just have the iso saved. Also I have the mp3's to be kosher for itunes.

To be honest, I can't tell the difference between any of my drives, even the external usb ones. My internal diamondmax 10 works just as well as my old external seagate 7200.7.

I have 3 of those 300GB 16MB Diamondmax 10's (2x SATA, 1x PATA). I also really like them for the price. I think I paid more like $119 OEM, but still worth it!
