I wish to start overclocking but I'm running Linux. All of the programs for monitoring CPU temperature seem to be Windows-based.
How can I keep track of my CPU temperature under Linux?
Thanks in advance.
erm..you cant?
I don't know of any CPU monitoring proggies for linux, but I might try bugging VIA tommorow..
Try using the windows proggie under linux.
(PS the CPU monitoring s/ware for windows isnt really all that accurate)

Oh really, I am using motherboar monitor 5 and I compared it to my compunurse readings and they are the within .5 celsius. I know that some mothrboard sensors are not good. But it seams that mine works just fine.

Are you suggesting I sue "wine"? I don't think that Linux would let wine access the hardware like that.

You are running Linux. How do you find your CPU temp?
I guess I can reboot and go into the BIOS, but won't that kill the whole point since the CPU will be nearly idle then?

after folding proteins for hours if you reboot your pc and check the bios, i can and will garauntee that your temps will be higher than idle. plus the cpu puts off alot of heat when you boot.
I asked this same question in another thread, but I will share with you the information that I have found. I use KDE and found a program called Khealthcare. The app requires LM_sensors to interface with the hardware. I dont have it running yet but it looks pretty cool. It looks to be compatable with most VIA chipset boards and inorperates shutdown features like MBM. Hopefully I will have it going tonight when I get home, I needed some C library headers so I will let you know when I get it going.

Get lm_sensors from http://www2.lm-sensors.nu/~lm78/ for the backbone. And for a gui, get gkrellm from http://web.wt.net/~billw/gkrellm/gkrellm.html.
Wow, that looks pretty cool. Sence I am still having problems installing Khealthcare I think I am going to try this out.

Any mobo heat sensor that is UNDER the chip rather than IN the chp will no actaully report the EXACT temperature.
Yes, install lm_sensors. All temperature monitoring in Linux begins with that.
Ok, I have Kgrellm going but I dont see any CPU temperatures.
Thats because you still need to setup lm_sensors.
lm_sensors is the subsystem that allows you to get the info on temps, etc. Everything else relies on that.
