View Full Version : WaterCooling Q... Noobish one :)
Would a single 120mm radiator be sufficient to handle a P4 640 and a X1800XL? I would use a Swifty MCP655.
It would go rad, cpu, gpu, resevoir, pump.

All rads are not created equally.
Nor are the fans and shrouds that supplement them.
Any specifics about your hardware?
I have no hardware, for making the switch to water cooling instead of Air.
I was thinking a Black Ice Xtreme(or the new low resistance version) would be a good enough rad. But as for blocks I am clueless as to what would be best for LGA and X1800 cooling. I've heard that the X1800 uses the same mounting system as the 6800's though. My system will consist mainly of this:
P4 640 Oc'd of course Folding so constant heat load
AW8-Max
2 gigs DDR2
X1800XL
2 raided seagate's
XFI Platinum
OCZ Powerstream 520
TT Tsunami Dream(thus the single 120mm Rad option, I have Antec Led 120mm fans that push 80cfm)

A SINGLE BIX probably won't be able to keep up with both cpu and video card, especially if you are overclocking. Check out the Swiftech Apex Ultra
Hmm... That apex setup is kind of interesting. I wonder though wouldn't that block access to the cards with the rad hanging down over them?
Is there an external rad that could sit on top of the case?

A radiator can go anywhere as long as you give it good airflow. The radbox can be bolted to the top of your case, just drill two hole to screw it to.
ooo... to buy this stuff it looks quite expensive...
Micro Res: 14.95
MCP655: 79.95
Rad Box: 22.95
BIX2: 57.99
Apogee: 49.95
MCW55: 48.95
Tygon: 8ft = 15.60
Clamps: 10 @ 3.60
Total: $293.94 :o
Or the kit for $257.95 :o
Guess I'll have to save up for awhile yet. :)
These prices were grabbed from sidewinder computers. Know where to get this stuff north of the border?

Danger Den is running a sale until tomorrow. 10% automatic and an extra 5% if you fill out a survey at reseller ratings. I just picked up a BIXII and a D5 (MCP655) for $130 shipped. If you are not going to buy a kit you may be able to pick up a few cheap pices there.

and, if you want to save even more money...use this coupon NVIDIASLI#1 for another %15 off...
alchemy, you might try and call them and get them to add the coupon. I called after i made my order and it had not shipped yet, so i asked if i could cancel and remake the order or get a refund for the savings. I had reconfigured everything in the basket getting ready to make another order with the same items, with the new coupon. So I just read off each number and then what the total was and they confirmed and said they would credit it back :)
Great customer service...oooohhh i had forgotten about the other 5%!!! wow...this is a GREAT DEAL
*edit* WoW just checked my e-mail...less then 36 hours later..and the refund has been processed!~

I ment while maintaining optimal temps. You could probably get away with bim2, the temps just won't be great...

that optimal temps stuff is garbage..
the ONLY way to measure success is by the max stable overclock
