AFAIK "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" is a service that's responsible for IP connectivity, and must be allowed internet access for any of your other internet apps to run.

However, you can usually deny server access. Check your services to see what's starting up automatically; you may have telnet or something to that effect enabled, and it's trying to listen to a port.

Also, some of Win2K/XP's monitoring services will listen to a port, and apparently the DNS client will sometimes try to as well. You generally won't impair your connectivity if you deny these services the ability to act as a server.

-Removing Messenger-

1. Navigate to C:\windows\inf
2. Open sysoc.inf and find msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7 in the [Components] section of the file and take out the word "hide" so the line would look like msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,,7
3. Close the file and save it
4. Now go to the Add and remove programs applet in the Control Panel and you will be able to uninstall Windows Messenger.

Note: Make sure to click on the add remove windows components button.
