Definitions:
OEM: Orignal Equipment Manufacturer, it comes in nothing but the CPU itself, tends to be cheaper due to it's simple packaging. But it requires you to buy a aftermarket heatsink and/or fan.
Retail: Comes in it's original box that looks all nice and everything. Comes with a standard stock AMD heatsink and fan. Retails may be a tad more expensive then OEM CPUs, except the stock heatsinks and fans aren't recommend for the enthusiast sector.

GAH

I already have a 144 but want to be a guinea pig for that new CACJE stepping. But that 270 is hard to pass up for a 165.

T'would be nice to have steppings listed from the vendors, but I know that's asking too much. I wouldn't mind having a nice 144 as a backup to my 148.

Nice compilation!

I really thought about buying this opteron 165 @ 270 again, but that's it... I'm not playing with opteron marketing anymore.

It's F-ing ridiculous what monarch is doing.

Less than 2 weeks ago, they had the 165 OEM for $299.63 and wrote "LIMITED TIME OFFER 24 HOURS... PRICE WILL GO BACK UP!"

**** monarch... they and newegg are still vendors of mine, but on my ****list. If any place has something for a few bucks more, I'm shopping there from now on.

Monarch is playing with numbers... lying and calling it "specials" and then jacking up prices the next day to make it look like it was a good price. Then, a week later they drop it below any price they ever had.

I know they are there to make money, but don't treat a ****ing processor like it's the stock market.

(That felt much better)

Really does fluctuate too much, wonder why they change it so often.

They do treat these things like comodities, but who can blame them? The fanboys DO create a demand. Having said that, I see that the Opteron 148 is going for $207 which seems like an awesome deal.

Updated as of this post.

Not much price changes, some vendors dropped by as much as $20 to match with other vendors, but overall I only see a average of $5.00 drop.

Well I thought it was pointless to have the out of stock CPUs listed, so I just listed all the places that were in stock from what I could find. But the next time I update it, i'll put the instock and outofstock places.

Didn't bother on the skt940 2xx and 4xx, not too many people actually use them for OCing and desktop usages.

Wow! You're lucky everything went will, check out their rating:

Always check resellerratings before buying things from online stores...

Edit: well all the "dissatisfieds" seem to be from them not carrying an item after saying they had it, so *Shrug*

Rise! Rise Tread!

Looking for Opteron 146/148. Can't find 148 for less than $200. 146's can be found for $175 shipped, and I can't seem to justify the extra cost for the extra multiplier and mhz. Appears I'll be going with Monarch or Excaliberpc:
http://www.excaliberpc.com/AMD_Opteron_Model_146_2.0GHz_Rev/OSA146BNBOX/partinfo-id-560152.html
http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=120847

Also: Flickerdown has an unheard of price of $126 for a 146, but the waiting list is probably past 75 people now, and from the way I read it it'll probably be a good month or 2 at least before I could actually buy one.

Yes, it's ridiculous, and I'm still shopping for an Opteron 146. I bought what I *thought* was the last retail 146 from ExcaliburPC to later get an e-mail saying they were sold out. In just a few days the cheapest I could find was $30 more shipped. I'm sure in a few days it'll be even more than that.

It's a pretty hard place to be really. The 3200+ Venice is still a good value cpu, but for someone wanting more you really have to pony up the cash. The San Diago is good, but for that price I thought I should be getting an Opteron. (Which is probably untrue now)

I was looking at a dual core opteron. $300 seems to be the sweet spot, now on monday they will be $40more.

Their pricing strategy worked. I will just buy a 3800.

Well, i bit the bullet (i always do!!) and got the 165 retail from zipzoomfly...listed as $333..free 2nd day shipping, after looking at other places and toying around with getting an oem, decided to stick with a retail, other places had ridiculous shipping charges anyways and would've come within 5-10 bucks of the cost afterwards if not closer, plus some other merchants i'm not too sure of, i've done business with zipzoom in the past when they were still known as googlegear and don't recall any issues...well, now that it's ordered, can't wait!

Retail is always a better idea. Three year warranty, you'd have to be crazy not to get that for a few bucks more.

Well, actually OEM might be a better deal then Retail. You wouldn't need warranty if you OC anyways, since that voids warranty.

Plus, if you get the Retail box, most OCers would want an after market heatsink anyways, so the stock heatsink isn't needed.

Yeah, all depends on how ya look at it, probably won't be oc'ing the chip the first many months of it's life, going to stick with the stock cooler to start as well. I don't mess around with overclocking like I used to...although it seems over the past couple years that I haven't been as active in computer hardware it's gotten a hell of a lot easier...

A lot of these places don't have the 146 in stock but are expecting them soon. Are they all waiting for AMD to release it? If so, when?

As it stands the 144 at ZZF is $209 and the 146 is $189.

WTF!

Rational thinking cannot compute these numbers.

What the hell is wrong with the new prices? 347$ for a 165 at flickerdown?!?! They had the best prices and they jacked it up while the same chip is listed as 286$ at monarch...
I think I missed my window :banghead:

The 144 is in-stock, 146 is back-order. I'm sure when they get the 146 in they'll jack up the price.

It's kinda sad, but if you don't have an Opteron now or very soon it looks like you won't want one after these price hikes. Hopefully they'll go back down in a few months, but by then something better will probably already have come out.
