Hello, i just bought a new copper heat sink from newegg.com (the thermal take sk6) and some Artic Silver. it was my first time putting on any type of thermal grease and i put too much, i had cpu temps of 55, didn't like that. so then i went back, smoothed it out, put too little had temps of 64C! REALLY didn't like that, so i put MORE on, had temps of 50, ehhhh, could be better says I! so i clean the whole thing with alcohol and start over, bout 46 now. Thats about what i had with my AMD HSF, so i go back in my case and clean with acetone, then alcohol, and put it on AGAIN. now i have about 49 degrees temp, (i have a 1.4 AMD t-bird by the way, no o/c yet) so now the Artice silver is ALL OVER The processor, i'm thinking this may be why the temps are still on the high side, so if anyone can tell me how to get off all the AS off i would be in your debt, i'm thinking of just dropping the whole thing into acetone for an hour. Thanks for your time

love,

First of all those temps seem really high. You said you have a Thermaltake SK6 - Do you mean a Thermalright SK6? I have an SK6 with idle temps of about 31 using arctic silver. Anyway, to get the stuff off use Googone and a qtip. Works like a charm! Then read this on how to properly apply the AC2 - and for best results use a single edge razor blade!

Although nobody seems to like this idea, it works best for me. For the most control, use your (gasp!) FINGER, after cleaning your finger with lots of rubbing alcohol. Works for me, and is a lot easier to get a thin, even layer than with a razor blade or credit card.

you can also stick your finger in a plastic bag or wear a plastic glove.

I wore a surgeons glove to do the ASII on my sk6
