heh.
well in my quest for upgrading my computer it looks like my next item would be the sound card and the speakers, as you can see in my sig i have most everything else upgraded. and my sound card is old, very old, lol. and i have these altec lansing speakers, i dont know the model number but its to satelites and a large sub, they sound decent but i was thinking of going to digital speakers and soundcard.
what would be the best soundcard (with digital output) to buy and what would be the best digital speakers to buy?
i dont really want to spend more than $100 on the sound and no more than $150 on the speakers.

on the sound card i was thinking of the audigy but its looking a bit pricey, is it up for sale anywhere for under $100?

thanks for any help :)

I just bought a Santa Cruz on ebay for 64.00. It falls somewhere between the LIVE! and the Audigy in sound quality. As for speakers from what iv read the Altec Lansing ADA890 is one of the best computer system money can buy. Currently the best price on pricewatch is 217 from newegg, but you can probably get them off of ebay for under 200.

For the price range you are talking about the Hercules Game Theater can be found at pricewatch.com for $100;

As far as speakers go, the Creative/Cambridge Soundworks FPS 2000 is a good setup and also found for under $150 at pricewatch.com.

is there a difference between the OEM audigy and the retail audigy? cuz i can get ahold of the oem version for $69 and the retail for $99 (mp3+ or xgamer, not platnium) i was just wondering if theres a difference in the card itself

I just picked up a refurb Hecules Game Theater XP from www.newegg.com for $69 shipped, they may still have some. If you aren't into the refurb stuff I think they sell the OEM for about $100 shipped and the retail for about $125 shipped.

All the reviews I have seen for the Game Theater XP have been great:)

Can't help with speaker selection since I just use my old Dolby Pro Logic home theater setup for my computer now and have never looked into them.

Damn that thing is sweet is it sorta like The Soundblaster Live Platinum?

I would buy it if I wasn't 13 and had a job :D I've been previously burning a hole through my dad's wallet :D
