View Full Version : Which Radeon should I buy?
Which one should I buy?
Radeon 7500 Retail? ($155 @ mwave.com - $20.00 rebate)
or
Radeon VIVO 64mb DDR ($158 @buy.com - $50.00 rebate)
How much better is Radeon 7500 compared to the VIVO? I probably don't need to use the VIVO features.
Thanks.
I also see the Radeon 8500 OEM for 200 bucks. Is this worth getting despite the bad press?
Anyway, the previous PC I built had Visiontek GTS 64MB DDR. I thought that was pretty cool until I read about how the Radeon has better 2d/3d visual quality.
Anybody know how Gainward GTS PRo or Ti looks in 2d and 3d? Considering the price at NewEgg, I might have to go with this.
I need something to go well with my beautiful 21" monitor. Thanks for any opinions!

Actually any current Geforce card will match up visually in 2d and DVD performance if you know how to set your monitor's parameters and video cards numbers up properly. For under $150 you can get a GeForce2 Ti series...............smokin card and may be the best bang for the buck currently.

Out of those two cards the 7500 is the better choice. Newer technology and faster GPU and memory speed. However, if you have the cash than the 8500 would be a better choice.

the 7500 definately and if you look at the reviews it spanks the Ti200......there are driver issues but ati is coming out with new drivers it says will fix the problems in November...

the Ti2 or the Pro have the same 2D as the GTS......the only Nvidia card with good 2D is the geforce3.......

Ummm, thats not true, you have probably built less than a couple of computers in your lifetime, Ive been doing this for 10+ years now since the days of 286's. All Geforce cards can have great 2d quality if set up right, take it from somebody who has been in this business for quite a long time. All these speculations that you get are from biased people who either run a "Geforce" or a "radeon" card. Hell I own em both, actually I technically own every single version of each card. The GeForce2 and 3 lines are the best, and the great thing is that they have excellent drivers. ATI always claims to have a "fix" in a month or so, been there, done that, the fact is that they will push it back another month, or the drivers that do come out will be another big dissapointment etc. I dont think I have ever had 1 single Geforce card returned due to customers being unhappy with them. But I have had quite a few "Radeon" cards returned in favor of GeForce cards because they do work and work better than the Radeon cards they are in direct competition with.
for all the replies. I recall using colorific to adjust the 2D for Visiontek GTS 64mb...it turned out much better after the tweaking.
I don't care so much about the DVD quality. Gainward Ti or Radeon 7500? Can't decide.
Which brand of the Ti do you recommend?
Hercules/Guillemot 3D Prophet II Titanium 64MB AGP with Tv-Out
MSI G2Ti PRO-VTG (MS-8836) GEFORCE2 TI 64MB DDR 4 X AGP - RETAIL
Gainward/Cardexpet GeForce 2 Ti / 500 XP, 4ns 64MB DDR , VIVO, Golden Sample Plus. Retail

If you like overclocking then the Ti should be a very good choice because of the Ultra fast ram....should get you to at least 500mhz ddr speeds.....however the 7500 does have (correct me if im wrong) full directX 8.1 support (meaning it supports all those things with funny names all the Radeon8500 and Geforce3 reviews talk about) so it should last you longer and at default speeds should blow the Ti away, however since i dont know how the Ati overclocks, i couldnt tell you......
i would go with the ATI but that is my personal preference....both are very good cards and its a tough decision, so i just went with the company i liked.......
edit:
if you get the Ti get the Gainward....if you dont get the Gainward the 7500 would crush the Hecules and MSI cards......

Ill agree with the Gainward, tons o fun utilities bundled with it to make it a screamer, also, a little unknown fact is that The GeForce will be able to run directX 8.1 with no probs, both cards will last equally as long as the other in these terms of becoming outdated.

i know theyll run DX8.1 games fine, however they dont have all the cool features that one can run on a Geforce3 or a Radeon8500/7500..........

Okay...for the record there are three Ti cards, the above posts seem a little foggy on the Ti200
GeForce 3 Ti500 (240gpu/500mem)
GeForce 3 Ti200 (175gpu/400mem)
GeForce 2 Ti200 (250gpu/400mem)
The Radeon 7500 compares to but gets beat by a GeForce 2 Ti200, not the GeForce 3 Ti200 in most benchmarks. That's the older GeForce 2 core..not the 3. The Radeon 8500 has been shown to be a hair faster than the Ti500 because of more available memory throughput but the driver issue still remains.

I'm getting that card you mentioned at buy.com (ATI DDR VIVO 64MB) I'm mostly going for the VIVO. One thing I would like to know for anyone who has that card. How are the drivers for WIN2k and for linux?
And no, I don't want to hear about GeForce whatever.... They may be 'god almighty' in the graphics card arena I don't care. They stole tech from 3Dfx and took it down... I shall forever remain (insert your favorite expletive here) at them. Because of them I have to deal with constant lockups in win2k because I'm running on beta drivers for an otherwise perfectly good Voodo Banshi 16mb.

The 64 ddr vivo is an awesome card. I have a second edition version default is 198/198 (mem at 400) and I have it at 222.75/222.75 no probs or artifacting with stock cooling.
This card is fast enough to play all games and it will do easily for the next year or more imho
I run XP and use the 7530 Win2K drivers, I have been meaning to try the beta 7189 but have not yet. I tried the 3102 and 3276 ATI drivers and the 7530 has given me the best 3dmark2001 scores in XP and I have had no lock ups. You can find this driver on Pinky's ftp site
Hope this helps you out.

If you actually read any proper reviews the Ti200 does not get spanked by the 7500 rather it's the other way round.
Plus regarding 8.1, only the 8500 fully supports it. The 7500 does not.
