I have ordered a ST60F for my new computer and am having some hassles. I need help from someone who knows about PSUs.

Since I haven't got my new mobo yet I thought that I would put the PSU into my case with my old mobo for something to do.

After fitting and connecting my PC failed to boot. After a bit of investigation I noticed the following
1) The CPU fan was not spinning (checked fan header OK)
2) no post beeps or display
3) red led on mobo on (normal)
4) the new Silverstone PSU has a blank slot in the 20/24 pin plug where the old TT has a white wire.

My fault finding has put me in two minds:
1) The white wire is important for my quite old mobo, an EPOX 8KHAL+, or
2) The missing wire is not used by the old PSU despite being fitted to the plug and the new PSU is shagged

PLease help as I want to get my new rig going as soon as I get the rest of my parts.

Some old boards require the -5v to start up. The ST60F does not have this.

Thanks Know Nuttin

I think that I know what the problem is. I checked the 24 pin power lead and almost none of the wires are connected straight through to the corresponding pin at the other end of the plug. The colours in the pins are correct though, ie red to red. With 4 pins taken off (11, 12, 23, 24), the common on pin 19 runs to 24, and the +12V3 on pin 10 goes to 11. Can you confirm that with all 24 pins in use this will not be big deal.
I have a background in avionics and find this to very unusual. Is there an easy way to remove the pins from the plugs to fix this.

Did you attach the ATX connector the right way? The pins should be the same when using only 20 pins, the extra 4 pins (1 for each of ground, +3.3, 5, 12v) are for PCI-E and are detachable from the 20 pin connector.

yeah, connected it without the extra 4 pins removed.
The problem is that with the 4 pins removed some of the wires from the main body connect to pins which are not in use at the other end, ie. the common on pin 19 runs to 24 (removed), and the +12V3 on pin 10 goes to 11 (removed).
This is why I want to pull the pins out of one end of tje plug and put them where they are supposed to be.
I might try a generic pin insertion/removal tool from work.
