View Full Version : Cooling a 1.4 Tbird

Just put my computer together and have the ALi Hardware Monitor showing the CPU current temp at 55 Cel. and the CPU Core Voltage at 1.76.
It also shows under system the current temp.at 35 Cel.
I am using a Vantac with AS2.
Does this sound like not enough case fans cooling or maybe a heatsink fan cooling problem?
I have one fan bringing in air in the front bottom of the case and only the power supply double fans exhausting.
I thought about adding another exhaust fan to the computer instead of having all being exhausted by the power supply fans.
Any suggestions Please
THANKS

I would ay that 55C is just too high for a t-bird. Also adding an extra exhaust fan in the back will help a lot. When I plan out a case for cooling I don't even include the psu fan(s) as an exhaust. Also, make the exhaust fan stronger than the intake fan but if that is for some reason not possible atleast don't make it less than the intake. I try and keep temps no higher than 45 at full load 50 max.
i think you prolly want to go with a seperate exhaust fan . . . i have an enermax 431W ps, and the exhaust on that only blows at 8 cfm, according to the manual, but i dunno about your vantec . . . you might want to look it up . . .

I just installed another exhaust fan in my case and its exhausting close to the cpu so I was hoping for a good temp drop BUT now its showing 49 cel. idle. Do you think - if anything I put the artic silver 2 a little thick between the cpu and heatsink. Could this be a heatsink problem and if so is it just the brand (Vantec) or just the artic silver needs to be reinstalled?
Any ideas!!
Thanks:confused:

I would start by removing the side of your case. Get a room fan and blow that sucker in on the motherboard and then check cpu temps. I would bet that you applied the AS2 way too thick and that is the reason for your high temps. Just so you have an idea, when I ran my 1.4 I had a case temp of 24-27 and the cpu ran at @ 34-39 idle. This is with 5 case fans, 2 80mm blowing in from bottom front, 1 120mm blowing in from side directly on to motherboard and 2 80mm exhaust.

Just saw someone post on another post on cooling that the heatsink fan should be pulling away heat from the chip and not blowing down on it. Another person said it should be blowing down on it as so I thought.
Am I mistaken or what?

Normally blowing, try both ways and see what gives better temps

Go and check your thermistor. You can *never EVER* achieve 10°C above ambient by AIRcooling, no friggin way (unless you are running CPUcool or 1.5Vcore in BIOS...)

Well last night I tried reinstalling the Artic Silver 2 Again and I have the same temps as before.
(38 Cel. Case Temp and 49-50 Cel. CPU temp at idle)
Then just to see- I took the side panel off and the CPU temp dropped to 44-45 Cel.
Do you think I need some more fans or what?
Maybe a new Heatsink/Fan or just install a new Screamer Fan.
I have 2 Sunon Fans - 2900 RPM/39CFM
1 drawing air in the front and 1 Exhausting air in the back of the case opposite the cpu.
The CPU fan 38CFM is blowing down on the CPU.
Will have to do a case mod to put a fan on the side panel.
Any suggestion PLEASE to bring the temps down to do some overclocking later?
