I somehow managed to lose the CD Key for my Win98 SE. Is there anyway to retrieve it off the hard drive?
If not, what are my options?
Thanks, any help will be appreciated.
Call microsoft. Good Luck.

I have done this. And if you cant find a reciept or a Proof Of Purchase off the box, they wont deal with you.

you could not be anymore blatantly wrong
you need to know if its oem or retail
you need to know if its full version or upgrade
and you need to know not to mention if its warez
(800) 936-5700
and they will provide you with a new PID

No, I couldnt be more right. I told them it was retail. Told them it was full version, and told them that I bought it. They asked if I had previously registered it, and told them no, I was new to computers and didn't know how. They asked if I had the reciept or the proof of purchase from the box and when I said no, they kindly said get bent.
Wasn't exactly in those words, but they wouldnt help.
I don't blame them. I had nothing to prove that I actually bought this product. They were only protecting themselves. If what you put up there actually worked, then there wouldnt be people out there hacking the numbers for themselves, they'd just call Microsoft. And Microsoft, in turn, would lose a fortune.

Agreed. If you buy an M.S. product from Gateway (for example), Microsoft won't help you. They will tell you to call Gateway.
If someone was using a warez copy of Windows they no doubt would be able to obtain a CD key by the same methods.
