Hi, I'm in need of a quiet Antec (my friend only likes Antec). I'm thinking his budget is under $125.00

His system specs are.....

Abit IC7-G
Prescott 3.2
Radeon 9600 Pro
DVD-RW
Floppy
1 1/2 GB RAM
Hitachi 7200 RPM SATA
2 120mm Fans
Two or three PCI cards (sound and a few others)

It doesn't have to be flashy or anything, his case doesn't have a window. I just wanted to help him get somthing reliable and as quiet as possible. He's not overclocking yet, but he might eventually.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help!

I like the SmartPower 2.0 series well enough. A SP2-450 or 500 will run his rig well. I also like the TruePower 2.0 series, having the TPII-480 myself. It or the TPII-550 are capable supplies.

Note that due to fan choice and fitment TPII supplies do not ventilate very positively in cases that pose any resistance to flow. Make sure to use a case with large inlet area if you use one. This tendancy can be fixed, but you void the warranty in doing so. The SP2 series does not suffer from this tendancy.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103941 This is a great psu. It's seasonic made so you know it's quality. The antec NEO HE 550w.

Yeah, I forgot about those; another good option.

I own an antec Smart power 550. Note that it has a modular design and is dual railed so its not the best overclocker.

Its fans also only spin up when the temperature gets high enough.

Everything seems pretty good about it, good quality per usual.

One odd thing i have noticed though is, according to speedfan, the 12v rail is 12.40 which is a bit high but so far nothing bad has happened.

Thanks for the answers guys!

He lives in GA (ATL area) so I'm gonna have him shop Monarch. Which of these will be the most quiet you think?

I like that fact that the Antec in the second link has a 120mm fan, but I'm not familiar with them as you all are.

Is EPS going to be of any importance to me?

All the TruePower II have 120mm fans.

Myself, I'd go with the TP II EPS 550w.

I hate when people give a 1 star rating because of compatibility issues, especially well documented ones at that. :bang head That PSU looks good, I might get that for my upcoming rig.

You sure about that? From looking at the PSU in that first link it appears that it has a 80mm exhaust and a 92mm intake. Where did I go wrong?

That's why I ignore newegg reviews. How can you trust them when aspire PSUs get a 5 star raiting?

My bad. The EPS is indeed a 2 fan 80/92mm config.

You could also look at an Antec Neo HE. 500w version should be plenty. The 550w would do easily.

I like the NeoHe 550 ...

just installed one in my brothers new 165 Opty rig (AN8-SLI ,7800GT ,4X512mb , 3 drives . etc ) , and rails are solid , thing is dead silent , seems to run pretty cool even at high usage . Cabling is nice and definilty added plus . No problems/or negatives thus far after about three weeks of usage .

Probably going to grab one for my new Opty rig too , now that Ive seen the NeoHe 550 in action .

BTW , the NeoHE 550 is $106 at Buy.com with free ship ; $19 cheaper than the Egg (sry Newegg) .
