View Full Version : Alternative cooling?
Ever seen a "spot cooling system?" They sell these in the grainger catalog. (Very expensive though) They run from a water and air source. The water trickles down a filter like media and a fan blows air through this. The result is a cool breeze from the exhaust. They are used in barns, etc. Wonder if these methods could be adapted to cool water for system or air? The filter type media is avaliable from grainger and is not too expensive, the rest could be easily rigged up. Another system I am looking at for air cooling is a vortex. These are used to cool the air in masks for firefighters etc. Check it out.

Those coolers use evaporative cooling, similar to cooling towers. You can find consumer-grade coolers like that if you don't want to buy an industrial one from grainger.
The ones from grainger are called a port-a-cool evaporative cooling fan made by I think General Shelters. I only wanted to utilize the theory and use a fan in a closed system such as pvc etc, and the media to run the water through. Am looking into it as a water cooler alternative to a bong. Any thoughts?:)
Yeah here's a link www.port-a-cool.net. Take a look.
Typed in wrong link. www.port-a-cool.net

Similar, I had seen this one. Got another idea and will have to draw it up.

it is an advanced bong, evaporative cooling is the way forward, it is being used in everything (the new zen coolers, bongs and fridges as seen in vaporchill systems)
The main part of the port-a-cool I am interested in is the media they use. Sure would like to get a better look before I bought a piece.
