i have chipped my tbird and now i am running a duron 800 @ 1027...
i wonder if durons run cooler than tbirds ?
i will be getting my tbird back soon (from the warranty) and i would like to know if durons run cooler...
thanks a bunch

In my experience they do run a little cooler, though I've not had them at the same speed with the same setup. Running at the same speed, voltage, etc, they may actually run warmer because of the smaller surface area of the die to transfer heat to the HSF or water block. But, with the TBird's extra die area, you have more heat producing transistors... hmmmmm... Can anyone give a real world or scientifically backed up answer?

i think durons do, i haven't really checked though. the best idea is to get a 1GHz tbird and a 1 GHz duron and see, i think tere is a reveiw out there

Duron are actually harder to cool.
This is becuase they have a smaller CPU Die and less surface area, thus less contact between the CPU and Heatsink.
Just checked the tech specs (say that 3x fast!)
Duron 850Mhz = 37.4 watts @ 1.6v
T-Bird 850Mhz = 44.8 watts @ 1.7v
T-birds are hotter.. I've never had a duron, so I can't say anything about the surface area or if they're harder to cool.. If that's true, then the smaller die/lower wattage might balance out with the larger die/higher wattage & make them comparatively equal.
