View Full Version : is beos dead?
looks like be.com is going under. the page says palm might be buying them out. i'm sure microcrap is happy about the demise of be.
I think they are as good as done. It's to bad as Be is probably the best os for the PC around. Unix based with great stability and networking but there was never enough interest to get much needed apps writen for it. With a lack of pro apps an OS can't survive.
BeOS isnt keeping their hardware support up to date. I recently downloaded te personal edition which did not have support for my video card, a GeForce2 - which is by no means an uncommon card, support for my sound blaster compatible card, or my d-link ethernet adapter. With no color or hardware support this promising OS is no good to me.

Yeah the driver support was bad but Nvidia did have drivers for BEOS. I had used it a few times but I have had better luck with Linux than BEoS.
Palm already bought them, but BeOS was pretty much dead for at least a year before that.
BeOS wasn't Unix based, and alot of people said the networking sucked bigtime (even though it was fine for me).
I thought it was a nice OS , would have been nice if it had taken off.
