Quake III Cheaters?

How can you tell if someone is using an aimbot in Quake III.

I am convinced that no one can shoot you with a rail gun time after time consistently within a fraction of a second from when I see them!!???

I'm using a cable modem and am talking about games with ping time under 75 ms. My computer runs pretty fast and I have a pretty good video card.

I don't play Quake III much so if this sounds really stupid you'll know why. OK: That's a good setup and a railgun cannot shoot that fast so they are using some sort of cheat I would say. What I do is(if you can on Quake) become a spectator and follow that one person around and see if it looks like he's cheating. If you can't be a spectator then die as quickly as you can(kills your score but alteast you'll find out)and follow him around. If it's like capture the flag or something where you can't follow ppl around then do your best to find that person and stay behind him and watch him or just gun for that person alone and see what he does. Hope this strategy helps.

I didn't mean to imply that the rail gun rate of fire was so fast. What I meant was that I repeatedly run into people who can shoot me with a rail gun before I can even react. My reaction time is probably no worse than anyone else's. I also know about the ways that the web can put you behind several frames. But, what I am talking about is consistent and repeated super fast shots when I barely have a chance to see them.

The strategy of following them around is interesting, but quite hard to do. I'll give it a try.

I was hoping that there was an electronic way to detect cheaters that I could download to my computer.

I don't understand why anyone would cheat anyway. What is the point???

Sounds like a cheater, although some people really are that good. I agree with you though, cheating in a online game is pretty freain sad. Its one thing when you cant get past the that certain part of (insert game name here),but online?

Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm a CS Fan, and even with Punk Buster, there's too many out there going for the cheap thrill. :(

I don't know how you would be able to tell.
My husband is pretty good at Q3 and has been accused of cheating online...even to the point where all the people he is playing against gang up on him. Which really sucks for him.

Why anyone would cheat to win is beyond me, I mean, what's the point? If you can't win by skill alone, then why would you want to win? It wouldn't be winning. It would be fooling yourself into feeling superior.
But, I don't think people should feel that others are cheating because they happen to win consistently.

You can spectate in Q3, I would suggest doing just that, follow the players.
The person hosting/serving the game would probably also be able to tell if there is a cheater on his map (I'm not really sure how, I've only hosted games a couple of times) , but, I know of one host that seems to know his stuff and has kicked cheaters off of his server, damned if I could remember his name though =\

i have noticed though in DOD if someone is using a speedhack when they are crawling it is nearly impossible to see them let alone shoot them.

Actually, it's likely the person is actually that good...you have to realize that there are players who have been playing Quake 3 and only Quake 3 since the test came out over two years ago...try find a server where the people are more on your level...
