Guys i could do with some help, i have a second pc which i use for internet and trying out software.
OS Windows XpPro SP2

Things is i have Ghost 9 installed, i want to remove Ghost so that i can try out Acronis True image 8, i purchased this some time ago and wish to retry.

Anyhow went to add remove programs and got rid of ghost 9. The pc rebooted to finish the process, once it had rebooted i inserted the disc into the dvd drive "I" however the drive was not there anymore according to explorer and Device manager.

Decided to use system restore as prior to the uninstaller running it created a restore point, rebooted and the drive is back. Trouble is now ghost will not uninstall now, it come up with the message " This patch package could not be opened, Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package."

If i try to run ghost i get an error "Error Creating View" "Error E9290006: RTCfile is missing" click ok and the another error " The Remote Call Failed and did not Execute"

So now it seems that
A) i cannot Unninstall ghost now,

B)And it also will not reinstall it comes up with the Error"This patch package could not be opened, Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package."
C)it will not Run,
D) i really want to get it off of the system.

So any ideas Please.

Can you go back further to restore, maybe a week or so?

I have tried that about an hour ago, went back to couple of weeks before Xmas.
In another forum a guy replied with the following.

"Using system restore AFTER uninstalling a package does NOT put that package back onto your system. It does, however, replace some of the system files (registry files) that may refer to the removed package."

So i guess no matter how far i go back it wont change.

See if this helps. Do not use restore to Add/Remove programs. The files will still be on the drive. I have found doing this makes more issues then helping.

First manually remove all files related to Ghost.
Navigate here and follow the instructions. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q247501
Reboot the machine.

Find which files are left over in the reg. A cleaner may get the leftovers. I would just clean out the Norton items. This might work well for your needs. http://www.ccleaner.com/

Reboot once again.

It should not give you issues, unless the disk is still showing reserved space for Ghost. If it does reinstall and do an uninstall from scratch. Or format the drive or partition manipulator to remove the reserved space. Use a program to recover used disk space.

Guys thanks to both of you for taking the time to help.
It seems as though i have got rid of it off the system and without any problems.

I will dowload ccleaner and let it loose on the system.

Once again thankyou.

If your using Notrons security programs(Norton Anti virus and/or Firewall) be cautious of removing vital entries for that.
