View Full Version : Air Chillin!
So your mom won't let you cut a hole in the wall to get some cold winter air to your puter? Try this, get a piece of plywood, etc, and mount a 4 by 12 vent register from home depot in it. Mine is 8 inches high. Cut it to the width of your window and shut the window down on it to seal. I couldn't find a 4 inch round tube but got a 4 inch to 6 inch adapter at The Depot. Get the 4 inch flex ducting and go from that to the puter. I have an old case I experiment with and cut a hole in the front to mount 1/2 of a 4 inch pvc connector in. I then got a small piece of 4 inch tubing and put a 4 inch to 3 inch adapter on it that the flex duct fits right on.(pvc fittings too) Bingo instant outside air! I control it by turning on or off intake or exhaust fans in the case in case it's too cold out. The good part is when you finish it quickly unplugs and can be put away. I used the 4 by 12 because I can put a filter on it and it keeps small birds or squirrels from being sucked in. Filters at Depot too. They are called vent filters, check em out at www.webproducts.com
I know, I know. Does this work? PIIIeb 800 @900, abit vh6, 150 fsb, thermalright sk6 w/51cfm fan. 130 cfm in, 100 cfm out, 60 mm in top plus powersupply fan. Blorb on northside. Prototype for soon to be upgrade (probably athlon) cpu temp full load right now, 20C, case 19c. Cpu stays within 2 degrees of mb temp. 4:15 pm in North Carolina outside bout 60F.
It sounds interesting, and I don't doubt that it works well. But I'm in So Cal. It's cooler indoors :p
Nice idea!! But wouldn't work here.... All our windows close sideways. Mabey if they made a vent that tall...... Has anyone thought of using a dryer vent (while the dryer isn't running of course ;))? Just somehow keep the end open, and voila!

LOL Ductape!
You could use any size vent you wanted, just make a filler board for the rest of the area in window.
By the way, cpu 17c, case 15c right now, sorry Southern Cal!
yea Duct tape I use it alot on my cooling adventures. I did some thing similar to this but stuck my radiator in front of my dryer hose it gets the athlon down to 20 and the case to ten... however the tereading is coming from the mb not sure how accurate it is. I want to invest in temp prob of some kind but its stable at 120 so I can't really complain a A7V thats had problems hitting 105 it works for me.
