I am picking an OS to use on my new 60gig drive, and i have been using 98se for ages now... but for the last few days have been using xp pro 180 day trail, and it is good in some ways but it is slower and its slows my internet conection down alot... so if i buy 98se for my new drive how much use can i get out of it before the software makers don't make any more games or stuff for 98se....

am i making any sence?

plz help thx

If you are already have 98se, why not get XP and go dual boot. you get the best of both worlds then.

Sorry about the 98 bit.

If you want to be future proof for at least a little while go with XP, as it has better security and it can run most games. imho

I havn't had any problems running any games or programs yet on XP ...so I would have to say I would go with XP....

Wont be long and Microsoft will axe support for 98. When that happens companies that make drivers will follow suit.

This is a bad thing.

I think MS will support 98 for at least two more years. I think they just gave up on Win 3.1 and Win 95 this year - am I right?

They dropped support for 3.11 in 98 and dropped support for 95 in 99. 98 support wont make it to 2003. Not with XP taking off like it is.

I agree.

I've never been a 95/98'er as I've always stuck to NT version kernels and NT 4.0 was all but axed out when Win2K arrived just a little over a year ago. It still has SOME driver support but any other mention of it (unless you deal in the tech field where it is still used) is almost unheard of anymore.

Personally I believe you will be able to play games (I won't comment on how well) and run programs for the next couple years using 98 but driver support will definately be gone before then.

I won't recommend XP simply because I hated it in comparison to Win2K (just my personal experience) but between the two I would say it's the logical choice (did I just contradict myself? Haha.).
