I have two machines - both have WinME

...Is there a way to run dual NIC's so I can acceive faster file transfers? and also idealy I want to use my main rig - a P3 as a gateway....

I have two NICs in that one (pentium) and my AMD is hooked to it via a crossover but I can not figure out how to get the Pentium to act as a proxy. What settings must I make to get this working correctly, I would rather stay away from running my Broadband through a hub and hooking up that way.... a centralized point of entry is easier to maintain and more secure.

Thanks in advance!

Joe

If you are using 100mb NIC cards you would be hard pushed to reach the maximuim transfer rate between two machines.

What proxy software are you using?

the simple way would be to enable/install ICS (internet connection sharing) on the main rig that's attached to the internet.

just using WinME - no extra software and I have ICC installed.

Right now with Sandra Pro I have a 64014 kb/s throughput - is that good?

the comparison on Sandra is as following:
Current Network - 64014 kb/s
100mbps FD - 9848 kb/s
10mbps FD - 1200 kb/s
10mbps HD - 1000 kb/s

That is with a single Crossover cable hooked to it.

I also had to put my PC150 Micron MT ram into my rig becuase I was trying to OC my Micron MT PC133... it tested at:

ALU - 409 mb/s
FPU - 445 mb/s

Is this good? It is testing lower than a 1gig, kt133 128mb - and I am at 1.1 kt133a and 256mb.. WTF

Hey when I enable ICS it still doesn't connect rig#2 and it also kills my AOL AIM prog and Outlook 2k.... what gives? I have to disable to use these progs.

There is this program called Winproxy. It is awesome. It lets you share internet connnection and files and printers. I know you can share files and printers with out it but this program lets you setup a proxy and many other neat features. DOwnload it at www.winproxy.com

Never are you to mention warez on this site. Should you need a reminder, check the forum guidelines. This is the fastest way to get you banned.

Consider this your ONLY warning.

Make sure in the ICS settings that it is set to use the correct nic card. Your second rig should have no address in the proxy settings and make sure the Automaticaly detect check box is not checked.

I have two NICS

3COM and INTEL
the 3COM is my modem NIC and the INTEL is the LAN NIC,

3com is set as 'shared' and INTEL set up as 'home'

IP is 24.221.x.x and I even config'd both NIC's with that IP.... now when I block thc ICS it returns my ability to fully use the 'net... email, aol aim etc etc.

I think for now I am gonna jut leave it alone - not worth the headache and I will be leaving town in a few days.

But I still want to know the reason and how to get it to work for future reference.

Don't encourage it either. Don't condone it, and DON'T allow a post to go un-noticed by a mod if you see one.

By responding to this, w/o letting any of the mod's know about it, you're just as guilty as he is.

try setting the INTEL nic to 192.168.0.1 and the 3com to 24.221.x.x.

Set the nic on the second comp to 192.168.0.2

*edit* the sub mask is 255.255.255.0 for 192.168.0.x

will that require setting any addresses within my properties on the comps themself?

I mean to change the IP address on the TCP/IP setting, in network properties on each machine.

Forgot to Mention you need to have TCP/IP installed for your NIC cards.

There is a way to do this using spanning tree protocol on my 3com switch. I think you will need hardware that can support it as well. OH and its called a trunk i beleive.

I don't have a switch - my rigs are hardwired via a single crossover cable. And trunking is usually done with routers I thought... could be wrong though.
