I have build a new pc with a pentium 4 630, gigabyte ga-8ipe775-g and a thermaltake big typhoon cpu cooler.
Now my question... I would like to overclock only the ram (1 gig mdt ram), at the moment the ram goes at 400 MHz - he should goes at 440 MHz.
The multi of the cpu is locked, but in everest or other programms was said that he can be x14 oder x15... My motherboard clocks the cpu at high prozesses on x15 -> 3000 MHz and with low prozesses on x14 -> 2800 MHz -> it must be possible to change the multi, but in the bios it isn't possible, he is locked...
Have somebody an idea how to change the multi? (Because I only want to overclock the ram -> x14 x 220 MHz -> 3000 MHz)
How can I dissable the function of the mainboard to change the multi of the cpu from x14 to x15??? (I have nothing found in the bios or the manual...)

Then my secound question... I have undervolted the cpu - 3000 MHz @ 1,00 V @ Prime95 and StressPrime stable. It is wonderful, because the cpu isn't so hot any longer, but when I restart my pc the monitor is black, also if I start my pc after shut down, the same... Has this a cause? (I have tested, cpu started also when I undervolt him with 0,975V)
If the cpu is clocked at 1,025V the cpu starts without problems... Where is the problem at 1,00 V???

Thank you for your answers and sorry for my bad english, but I don't use it very often in germany :)

Hey there, you should probably run the cpu at 1.025V if you are experiencing problems at 1.00volts.

As for running the 14x multiplier, I am not certain if your chip will allow you to do that. I believe only the 650 and 660 chips allow you to force the 14x multiplier. However, you may search for a "speed step" setting in your bios which may provide you with more information.

only processors with 115w TDP can drop multi which is why my 550 can but the 550j cant.

on lga775 only 3.4 and up can drop multi. when i was reasearching this the 6 series wasnt out yet so im not quite sure which of those can but i doubt the trend differs

the reason these can drop multi is its a safety feature. since some motherboards didnt support the processors even tho they could fit. they put that in there so it would drop the multi in boards that couldnt handle it. so motherboard makers exploited the feature :)

here is a post that has a list

Welcome to the forum, Hasch.

Systems need more vcore when cold booting, so 1.0v is probably not enough. Try 1.1v or 1.2v. That should still run the CPU cooler, but allow booting stability.

What brand and speed RAM do you have? Sounds like you know for a fact your RAM will run at DDR-440, right? If that motherboard is the one I'm thinking of that uses the i865 chipset, then the highest memory ratio you can run with an 800 bus CPU is 1:1, so that means you'll need to run 220 FSB to accomplish your goal. Of course, that also means your CPU will run at 3300 MHz, but nothing wrong with that as long as temps don't get too high. You'll have to use at least default vcore though, probably can't run lower voltage like you wanted.

hi there i have a pentium 4 630 overclocked @ 3.6ghz
without problems on stock cooler just by raising the fsb
look @ the cpu-z file i attached to see my settings
