Trying to make heads or tails of my MBM readings.
http://www3.sympatico.ca/keith_lee/temp.gif
I'm currently running Seti in the background.
System specs...
ASUS P3V4X motherboard, MSI MS-6905 converter card, Celeron 800, 1 stick of 256 Apacer ram (Infineon chips), Aopen 325 NIC (Realtek chip), Aopen GF2 MX 400 vid card, SB Live! Value sound card, Alpha pep66 w/Delta (36 CFM), ASII thermal compound, Enermax 300W PSU, 1 X 80mm intake, 2 X 80mm exaust.
I know that the software temp monitors are always off their mark by a little bit, but i'm still a little worried because as soon as I exit Seti, the CPU temp drops down to 37°C, which is about where it should be at idle with my current cooling setup. The MB is a little old and on it's last legs (as far as I know for sure, DIMM slots 3 & 4 are fried). The weird thing is, the system runs prefectly stable. i don't want to take it over a gig until I resolve my apparent heat problem. I also didn't want to have to mod this case to add any fans, but I have a spare panel to use if it becomes necessary. Any thoughts?
Don't ask me why I even included "sensor 3" in that. Taking it out now...

if it was realy at 79c your Cele would be fried by now

I wouldnt worry about it and go for 1 gig

check in the bios on a cold boot what the temp is, if it the same then dont worry about it, i have a mobo that reported the temps at 70 all the time

It's not really the CPU that I'm worried about. I just wondering if I should be running OC'd with a MB that's not 100%. I mean I am a little worried, about the CPU, but I can get one tomorrow if that's the case. I'd really like to know how hot this thing is really running, and if it's going to fry anything else if I keep the current setup.

Touch the heatsink. If its too hot to touch it is above 60c i think. if it is cool to the touch or barely warm then you have nothing to worry about.

Also make sure that your fan is working.

Also quit doing seti and start folding:rolleyes: :) :) :)

switch the 2 chips that u got set, what ever chip is set to read sensor 1 use it for sensor 2, and vivce versa with sensor2 for sensor 1, looks like they are backwards. It will then give diferent and correct temps for ya

Really? just by setting it to sensor1 will get it to read "correctly"?
The reason I say correctly in quotes is because I just use it as a ball park figure. I don't trust software monitoring 100%. Thanks for the help. Let you guys know how it goes.

I will have a third system shortly (if finances permit. /me pleads to the gods of money to send some my way...) that will run Folding@home, 24/7. I want/need a dual rig to run all my graphics stuff, flash, swift3D, Maya, etc... But alas Christmas is almost upon us and we all know how that cuts into the "new toy computer" money...

actually thats not entirely true. if you HS is hot to the touch that just means it's doing it's job in absorbing the heat from your CPU. what it DOES mean however, is that you would probably benefit from more airflow.

Hmmm... switched the sensors and I'm getting the same readings.
The heatsink is cool to the touch at the base of it. I geuss the MB is fried enough to give false readings. Anyone have a P3V4X they want to get rid of?

seriously, if your HS is cool to the touch, especially at the bottom then i'd guess that you might have a HS problem. Heat isn't transfering from your CPU die into the heatsink properly. what kind are you using? didn't see it in the specs. also, try double-checking your temps with an alternate thermistor and see if you can't reconcile your numbers. maybe it's right, maybe it's wrong, but you're not really gonna know until you check.

If you end up having to go the HS route, seriously try the SK6 or the new Vantec (which is an absolute tank i might add). i've seen both these HSFs work out for folks where even a glaciator couldn't for whatever reason.

good luck
