View Full Version : GB no like tight timings

These new GB's are giving me a headache.

I had DL'd one & was running it on my A64 @ 2450-ish

Memory timings of 2-3-5-3 @ 1:1 and say I had to reboot
for a clean shut down of the client (one click) / and
stop the service on boot up before it gets going.

I 'd let it run for a couple of hours & it'd lock up my machine on me.
Everything else has run fine, until I started getting these a day or so ago.

Anyone else having a prob? & with a tighter timing on thier rig?

I just set it to Optimal Settings in the BIOS & tweaked a couple of small
things. Now at 2.21Ghz & 2.5-3-5-2 1:1 and it's purring along just fine.

And yes, I ran CPU burn & F@H to find a stable O/C.

hmmm... Didn't think timings too TIGHT would mess it up. Anyone else out there that can confirm this? My mobo craps out on me if i change mem-timings, or i'd try it.

I've seen them knock out my XPs which are weak and not as stable. You have to have a stable and solid rig to handled these gromacs as they are hard on the system. I've seen this happen on Primed rigs also, it's just that critical to fold them.

I'm running 2-2-2-5 with PAT, and the GBGromacs fold fine.

Scott.

I'm still noobish around here, :p

Who's PAT? or rather what is PAT?

I've played with my timmings a bit & loosened them up a little.

It seems to help, and I got 200 more mhz outta it too. :D

I didn't know either, but it's an Intel technology...Link (http://www.intel.com/design/chipsets/pat.htm)

At first I thought PAT was Don's sister-in-law...

Interesting that Pat was only on the 875. I have it running on my P4 and it does afford a slight boost in memory bandwith. With extreem OC I had to disable it before I had the CoolerMaster NB cooler. It now stays on!

AFAIK by enableing PAT on 875 chipset you are using slightly different memory path in the northbridge with lower memory latency so you get an small performance boost from it.

Hey Warrior,

I've been running the GBs on my x2 3800 that is OC'ed to 2650, with 2 gigs at 2-3-2-5 with no problems since the second week of December.

There is also a PAT that asus and abit implemented for the 865 chipsets although they couldn't call it pat due to copyright and making Intel mad.
Generally, you won't hit the 250 fsb range with an 865 mobo with it enabled due to stability.
It is enabled on my sig rig but that cpu can only do 235 stable anyway. I have another 875 (ic7-g) that is running 270 fsb with it enabled.

I've got an A64 Winnie running @2541 now and 2.5-3-3-11.

It's some 1st run Corsair TCCD stuff.

What mobo are you on? DFI Ultra D for me.

If you have the same, what BIOS are you using?

:attn:

Thanks for the input.

Do you remember what it is called by abit? If i remember correctly it was only on the 865PE chipsets... i vaguely remember reading that somewhere before buying my IS7-E(and the fact that overall the 865PE was just about as good as the 875 at the time).

On AS8 (LGA775 board but with 865pe chipset) it is called game accelerator.
