Yes they run cooler, it is cause the way they are assembled. In the short time my 1st XP ran it did run cooler than my AVIA. About 7c, but it was not a sound test due to lack of time.

I never used a Tbird, but i do have an XP. Current uptime is 4 days, idle @ 33* C, load at 36* C. This is air cooled, with a Swiftech 462a heatsink, sanyo denki fan.

Mine (XP1700+) is a lot cooler than my 1.4TB (RIP) as well. It's about 4-5 deg. cooler now:)

Are those temp differences taken with the chips at the same speed and voltage?

Just wondering so we can get an accurate idea of the diff.

yes the Xp runs a little cooler then the tbird, maybe a 2-3c lessm but also the mp runs cooler than both.

I thought the MP was the same chip as the XP, just not supporting dual setups as readily, and not tested for server applications.

Theoretically, the XP's and MP's have larger cores and should be easier to cool, given identical FSB/Multiplier/Voltage settings. The same case is true between the Duron and TBird..... the TBird has more surface area and is easier to cool, you generally get lower C/W ratings with a TBird.

My personal experience with two XP1800+ cpu's has been:
1st one
about 7c cooler than my 1.4 clocked at the same speed.
2nd one
about 9c cooler
ofcourse the difference there could have definately been my mobo sensor.
