ive got an old p2 in the garage, if I got a small harddrive for it I could run it on the side, any idea where i could pick up a super small harddrive for really cheap, big enough to fit win2k and seti on? would be a slow cruncher but would none the less add to our numbers...

I'm trying to think how id connect it to the internet, maybe a modem connection just for downloading and transmitting...

any suggestions would be cool

For the harddrive I would look at the computer shows or a local computer store alot of them have used parts.

CompGeeks.com (http://www.compgeeks.com) carries alot of vintage PC parts at pretty good prices.

Not sure how big you're looking for but they had a 4.3GB for about $40...had smaller drives for less too.

I actually got a Savage3 32MB for $25 from there today for my old dual P2 350 system. Had a PCI 16MB card in it but wanted one for the AGP slot instead.

They've always done me right there.

There are OSes that you can fit on a floppy. You could use one of those (maybe) and run it off of that (not sure how big it is, though).

Or! you could run the OS off of a CD and SETI off of a Floppy (it fits. :)) then you'd just have to have a CD bootable motherboard. And a CDROM. CDROMs are cheap, though.

Or you could set it up as a relay(?) network where you have it load an OS off of a different computer (this can't be done with Window to my knowledge)...

The best setup would be buying a cheap hard drive and just installing an operating system like 98 or 2000. You can pick up some cheap ones on ebay. Don't need a cd rom for the system, just a barebones would do.

Don't mind me much. I was kinda tired when I posted that..might seem a tad odd now. :)
