now i dont make fun of me but, dont you have to have the L1 bridges closed to overclock an amd chip? but i have seen people talking about overclocking them without them closed, so how do they do it?

NP we all ask questions that we feel silly about later. Yours was something you needed to know

That's what makes this place so great. Nobody gets flamed for asking stupid questions.
Yours wasn't stupid at all by the way

If you want to increase and the multipier on locked AMD (eg on mobo which hasn't any multiplier jumper etc) you can cut and connect specific bridges on CPU

heh, no need to feel like a bonehead. THat was a legit question. The only stupid question is the one not asked (well, except for the occaisional "DOES ANYONE HAVE AN ATHLON I CAN HAVE?" j/k :p)
Basically, connecting the L1 bridges will allow you to change the multiplier. The speed of a cpu is calculated through the multiplier times the fsb (front side bus) speed.
i.e. If you had a 1.0Ghz CPU the speed (assuming it was factory and 100fsb default) would be 1000 (10[mult.] * 100[fsb])
raising the fsb typically gives the largest performance boost, so it is favorable to have higher fsb than just a large mhz total obtained through a high multiplier (tho it looks better in your sig ;)) So usually people drop down the speed of the multiplier to get a better fsb speed.
I hope this was helpful as I had a bunch of these type of questions when I was a newb. Sorry if this is stuff you already knew. Just tryin to be helpful:D
