Finally! Now where are the Cedar Mills and P5WD2-Es?

920 @ $269 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819116237)
930 @ $357 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819116238)

I want the Cedars so bad, Id rather stay away from heat, even when I have phase change (Coming back in a few weeks.. still anxiously waiting for it :-/). The 940 looks tempting though.

Oooo I want a 920 :( But alas no 65nm north of the border.

XOCer, yeah. I still think mine is just a horrible clocker, but I am going to rebuild my phase unit anyway. I want to put a better controller in it, I need to replace my evap temp probe and set it up so the evap line is on the right side for the V2000 case. Right now I have to snake it around pretty good to get it on the proc. It's not effecting performance or anything, but I cringe everytime I look at it :)

All I know is if I spend the $$$ on a 661 and it OCs like crap too, I am going to be PI55ED, first out of the bin or not. It's the top of the line and it has got to be speed binned, or so I think :) Unless another revision is coming shortly that may produce better clocks, I'll probably just keep the 661 one way or the other until Conroe shows up.

The 900s are not that hot until you really get them clocked and even then not too bad. I put the 930 on water last night and can't get a load temp over 40C @ 4GHz/1.45Vc even on a 32M SPi (idles around 30-32C in a 26C room). It will even bench 4.2GHz on water which wasn't even an option for a screen shot on stock air. Too bad phase doesn't do much more for it.

Ssetre, Newegg won't ship to Canada?

BTW, that "free" World of Warcraft that m-wave advertises is just a trial version.

Ross, patience my brother. The 661 Cedar Mill will really respond to your magic Chilly. I figured the dual cores would be harder to O/C.

Hehe...thanks batboy. I am trying to be patient, but I think I've already moved on from Presler and am ready for the next thing that might clock well without spending $1000. I actually think I was at that point on Sat.

A 661 should respond well, but I am a bit concerned over the idle temp on the Presler, whether that's actually what it was or not. Not that I wasn't expecting it to be as warm or warmer than my 670 clocked and loaded, but I thought for sure it would idle lower and give a shot at a good clock (4.8-5GHz) even if I couldn't run long benches on it (used to that from the 670). mikeguava said his 975X board ran his Presler about 200-300MHz higher than the P5WD2, so that might be part of the equation. He also said 1.50Vc is nowhere near enough for 5GHz even on the 955XEs.

Anyway, I want to fix up the single stage like I mentioned earlier and maybe a slightly bigger condenser/comp, but nothing like the 2/3HP I was talking about a couple of months ago. I know the minute the phase unit is taken apart will be the second the first CMs are released so I'll try to get started on that ASAP, haha.

I just came across a 661 screenie. 5.1GHz on air @ 1.600Vc . Room temp 18C, idle 34C, load 46C.

Some things that concern me (other than the Vc):
1) 5.1GHz in P5WD2 Prem, but only 4.6GHz in P5WD2-E. I don't know if that was max clock or what, but I do know the P5WD2-E BIOS is not all there. I am waiting for an answer on what the deal is between the OCs on each board.

2) Again, like most 955XE OCs we've seen on ES, the 5.1GHz was done using a 17x multi at just over 300FSB (302). Outside of LN2 or a 3-stage cascade, I haven't seen any CM or Presler much over 300FSB regardless of the multi. I don't know if he stopped at 300FSB due to heat or something either...waiting on an answer for that as well.

Anywho, looks like 5GHz shouldn't be too much of a problem on the high end CM with good cooling. OMG, Presler deja vu :bang head
