My little baby. It started as this

I then added this.

I then put in a Iwaki 30Z and a 400CFM blower

and 4 heatercores, a swiftech Storm, two Maze4 GPU blocks and a Swiftech 6002

My good motherboard is on its way back from Kentucky, so I don't have temps for the Storm. The 6002 cools a 1700+ and Speed fan says 52C.

I have to think this is wrong because there should be about 2.5 gal/min going through it.

Mmmmm, I love blowers. Mine is much smaller than yours though.

How loud is the blower?!

I don't run the blower at full speed. I ordered it here (http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=2004102714142227&item=16-1258&catname=electric).

It is 53V but I run it off 24V. It also has a 10V speed controler. I built a temp controller that raises the voltage as the water temp rises in comparsion to the air. So if the room is 30C and the water is 31C the fan is on low even if the water is warm.

The box is made of 1/8in steel that was laser cut and welded for me. The top and bottom can seperate to make it easier to move.

The whole thing holds just under a gallon of coolant.

This deserves that one Daaaaaamn! pic, but I don't know where it is, and don't feel like finding it as I'm really tired atm. Good job man, can't wait for some more temps.

Damn - nice!

Curious about your 2.5 gal/min number - are you running everything in series?

The 30Z adds some heat to the water (I think ~35 watts when not cooled well) but I also measured and got just 3.5 gal/minute through the pump and 2 apogees, so it is possible with 4 heatercores and 4 waterblocks (IF you're running everything in series) that you're getting less than 2.5 gal/min.

Anyway I thought I was going overboard, but this is just nuts. Good lookin' setup there, keep us updated.

so what's all this cooling? 2 procs and 2 gpus?

That's a pretty beefy setup, but what's it cooling down exactly? A dual-processor system with SLi or something? That's quite a big loop for a single machine...

Jeeezus. Very nice. How loud is the blower?

Wow, that is a HUGE setup. How much did building that steel box set you back?

The 2.5gal/min I estimated from looking at Iwaki's head/flow curves and ProCoolings curves for the Storm. They instersected at about 3 if I remember correctly.

The water leaves the pump goes to the Storm, then to a Maze4 on a 9800 pro. I originally was going to wye it between a 6002 and Maze4 for the second computer, but getting the flow balanced between them proved difficult.

So i took out the second Maze4 that was going to cool a POS mx440. The water leaves the 6002 and wyes to the heatercores. They are two sets of two in series.

The blower is quite loud on high. I don't know how loud it will be when I add the heat of a Oced P4 and a 9800. I'm guessing that right now the pump adds about as much heat as the 1700+.

The box was free. A good friend of mine works for a company that makes exercise equipment. And he runs the laser cutter their. One day some extra pieces got cut and taken home with him. Where he welded them for me.

My plan is that when I upgrade my comp to something with like 2 dual-cores and vid cards in sli, that I will be able to use this to w/c it.

good pump and res

zebkoolindc
01-11-06, 07:38 PM
Took me forever to get the res to seal. I drilled a 1in hole and tapped it for 3/4 NPT barbs. the middle barb couldn't go into as much pvc and leaked. Half a tube of sealant latter its all good.

wat is ur temps?

zebkoolindc
01-12-06, 08:00 PM
My 1700+ reads 51C. I believe this is about 20C too high. It will read about 40C the second the Comp is turned on.

Albigger
01-12-06, 09:29 PM
so it only warms up to 51C after a while?

Do you have enough airflow over the radiators?

zebkoolindc
01-13-06, 06:28 AM
51C is under folding. I think I have enough air flow. The blower moves quite a bit of air. It is on about as low as it will go and still spin. But I have no clue how much air its moving

I missed this thread, so I'll just say, very nice. A very interesting design there with the blower, I kind of like it. I hope to see more updates to this project of yours in the future.

how loud is that blower?

zebkoolindc
02-28-06, 12:29 PM
Blower isn't very loud. But on its lowest speed it still moves tons of air, and you here that rushing around. The air is proably pretty turbulant when it goes into the back half, causing more noise.

If I put my hand on the radiator I can feel a warm spot on the first quarter the water passes through. I am thinking of getting 6 120mm fans and replacing the blower with them. If I run them on 5V I should still have plenty of cooling and hopefully less noise.

can u compare it wide open to something

Thanks

At its lowest speed the blowe is louder than anything else in my case. At 48V the fan isn't loud but the rushing air is INSANE.

If you are thinking of buying one, don't. It doesn't get quite no matter what you do. Unless you are going to stick it in a room far away, then enjoy the 400CFM goodness.

love the res...reminds me of my monster water loop....

(page #1 if you want theory page #2 if you want pics)

blowers RULE!!

ive had the ones in the above link and then tried this one:
http://www.ocforums.com/showpost.php?p=2804728&postcount=36

and it was WAAAAAYYY tooo loud @12v and often drew too much power on start-up and tripped my PSU's safty.... :bang head

im glad to see there are still a few MONSTER loop builders out there :)

The best way to eliminate this problem is to make sure you have double thickness where you drill and tape for barbs. I put a pipe coupling in the middle to create a double layer for my return barb. As you can also see, I have 2 Bonneville heater cores with a Mag 7 pump. Under full load the temps stay in the high 30s with a P4 650 at 4.42G. I use a 10" cooling fan for air flow. It is quiet when set on low, speeding up the fan only gives a 1C decrese in temps.

Heh, I have two 1,000 CFM blowers, but I don't have enough power for those monsters, they're just sitting in my garage. Even if I did use them I think they might do some damage to equipment pushing that much air in a confined space. But back on topic, I can't wait to see some results.

It may I tried it with an 1100 CFM fan and I had a few tense moments when I started it up.

Nothing happened except that my case was thoughly dusted out when it was done.
