View Full Version : Suggestions for o/cing a cel566
I've got an extra AlphaPep66 fan here, and a system with a celeron 566 chip in it. How high do you suggest pushing it?
Specs:
576MB RAM (2x256, 1x64) PC 133
GeForce 256 32mb agp
Kensington NIC 10/100
SB PCI 128
BH6 board
realmagic dvd decoder
pci parallel card
--less important--
6x dvd (samsung) 32x cdread
16x12x40 yamaha cdr
20 GB WD 7200
60 GB WD 7200
floppy, of course

with any luck at all your should be able to get that CPU to hit 100FSB (850MHz) with no trouble at all.
950+ if you get lucky.

To begin with, try the 100 fsb. Which BH6 and Cel 566 ya got ??
Well over 90% of those Celeron 566 CPUs would work at 100 FSB (850 MHz). With good cooling and a little luck, it might go up to 112 FSB (952). I used to have a exceptional cB0 stepping C-566 that I could run at a stable 115 (978), but I had several cooling mods done to my system.
Go straight to the 100mhz FSB and work from there.
Good Luck

Is it a brand new CPU?
If it is, I'd run it for an hour at 66, then another hour at 75, then another hour at 83. Running Seti all the time, to burn the CPU in.
You will then be ready to run it at 100FSB. I ran mine at 100 FSB for around 24hrs, then I stepped it up once again (use turbo mode in the BIOS) .
Unfortuneatly my old cB0 celly died along with my BH6, and it wouldn't POST at a higher speed (112).
My cC0 (thx Intel RMA Dept :¬)} ) and Soyo replacement board is running at 118FSB (1003 CPU @ 1.9V) just to give an indication. so 124 might be pushing it a bit.
I've seen claims of cB0's running at 133FSB on later model abit boards, but the voltage is way high (over 2V) and they've got good case cooling (I assume)

I pulled 100fsb first time out with the old asus p2b-b. kept playing. 112 is where I stay (952). Stepping CO (Sandra). 117 is not quite stable. 2 hours of sandra burnin one time. Then she locked up on it's own so I backed it off. 566 megs 133 ram. Case mods for cooling. Asus 370-dl slocket. Radio shack thermister for cpu temps (plugged into the board). 112 is solid.

What kind of cooling do you have?
Those 566 have like a 100% overclock sometimes ... or close or some what near the 80%...
Hope your monitoring your temps and use Seti !

When I said case mods, i was being generous. Popped a hole in the side, just to one side of the cpu and mounted a case fan. Tried it blowing out and it wasn't as good blowing in. Generic hsf, fan from the local comp shop.. It is running at 6ooorpms but no idea what name. Cleaned up the inside of the case, cables, etc. Using MBM with alarms and shudn set up. Right now-idle-22/31c. During sandra burnin (2-3 hours)-26/36 to 38. This is from the probe I rigged up. I used an infrared doojiggy I use at work to shoot the hsf fan right over the core to get some verifications. It does jive with my bios readings. About the best I could do.
