In all honestly I cannot tell the difference between these two CPU's other then the 200Mhz clock speed which can be regained by the 760 by means of overclocking. But I figured I would ask because im planning to jump the pentium 4 sinking ship and cling onto a pentium m lifeboat.
Has anyone been able to tell of a big performance increase becaus of the extra $400 you spent on the 780?
you'll find that the dothans are hard to find differences in, but also arent the best to overclock with. Well, at least not in my laptop ;) (more voltage would definately fix that...)
as far as im concearned there are two types of dothans. 400fsb ones, and 533 fsb ones.
As long as they have 2mb cache they're all the same otherwise. accepting different multi's, of course.
overclockability between two 760's, or two 780's, wont be the same. picky, picky dothans.

Well im not talking about a laptop, im talking about moving it to a Desktop system which is why I need to know. And since people no longer have to use the damn ASUS CT-479 adapter and ca instead use the AOpen Boards, thats the best route to go in my opinion.. =D

I havent seen a ton of results from the 760s I think it *should* clock close to as well as 780. The 780s are prefered for hardcore cooling but I think on air the gap is small enough that the 760 should be okay for your app.
Whatever you decide though post your results in the dothan overclocking thread.
Oh yes the Aopen boards are okay but no where as good as the Ct-479. However if your set on PCI-e and not AGP I would suggest waiting for DFIs new 945 based board.

Well the reason I chose the AOpen Board is because it is a MicroATX Board. Im trying to put together a badass rig in a small package and thus, silverstone and AOpen answered the call. Now if DFi makes a 945 based mATX board then I will considder but for now im stuck with i915 mATX boards.
Im actually still wondering if Koolances Aquian Mini water cooling system can fit into the Silver Stone SG01 Case....that would be amazing because then I would be able to ramp up those speeds a little more.
from my experience (have tested a few 780s) and from what i've read from forums -
780's all seem to have guaranteed oc levels..
i think it's safe to assume that all 780s will do 2.9-3ghz on water on high-end air. prime stable of course.
mine did 2.8 prime stable with ct479 inbox and currently is at 3ghz, watercooled withoud rad...
with cold water my max superpi stable has been 3.3ghz and i was able to catch a cpu-z screenshot at 3.4ghz.
760s will do _mostly_ fine, but i still it's more or less 2.5-2.8 24/7 range with default cooler.
i have never seen a non-780 dothan doing even 3ghz superpi with normal room temperature..
btw, got mine from ebay.. paid ~$400 for it..

Well im just deabting though if I want to pay 200 more dollars for the 780 just for an increase of 100 MHz, its not worth it to me...x.x
