What are you normally doing when you get these crashes? What OS are your running? Is your PC overclocked and if so, how much? What are the temps of your CPU?

There are probably a million things that can make Windows crash.

What error are you getting when it crashes? Is it a full blue screen crash or just a popup box explaining the problem?

If it's a blue screen what information does it give you?

I'd lose 98 and go ME or 2000. That'd solve your problem, and if you're installing the OS every other day, its not that big of a deal.

2000 or xp! ME is crash city for most users. some love it I can't stand it.

it sounds like an Explorer issue. what is the OS? if any explorer files r corrupted the best way to go would be imo reinstalling the OS.

If you would like to stick with Win 98 go with a backup and format..

And if you decide to upgrade format(because some bad files from your windows 98 can cause your win upgrade to screw the future os your planning to install)

...

And Win2K and Win XP(With those new microsoft PowerToys microsoft has really tweaked Windows XP for maximum performance)

Check the power connection at the back of the hard drive,This can cause severe windows destruction if the power connection is lose,or not connected properly. And yes it can cause issues that appear and dissapear.

Many a hard drive has died from that plug having a bad contact.or that connector not connecting properly in the H/D itself...

This most likely is not your problem but I had to offer something different, and something that did not blame poor old billy gates....

Diehrd, you are closer than you know...

I experienced 2 consecutive Windows XP crashes within 2 days compliments of bad contact of my IDE cable....

Crashes were irretrievable....XP was damaged beyond an install repair.....

nutty - what kind of power supply are you running in that box?
I used to have problems with Win98 and random crashes/boots
until I replaced the "no-name" 300-watt PSU with a decent one.

A "cheap-jack" power supply can make you think your OS or apps
are flaky. Check your voltages in the BIOS if possible; if any are
10% or more under spec, then I would be very suspicious of the
PSU.

The A7V133 had a problem with file corruption. Go to the ASUS website and get the newist BIOS that you can for the MB. That might help. I fixed my problem with that board by throwing it in the trash.
